speaking of which. It's playing back a very relaxed shine on you crazy diamonds in a quality that is not to be sniffed at.   Winner Winner, no tofu dinner.
The issue with that album is that in quiet passages with good equipment you can hear the master tape hiss.
true. I don't care, it's still good music.
In all honesty... for me it's part of the experience; it feels like the cold stillness of outer space or a moonlit winter night... and it is appropriate. I'd miss it if it went away.

Well I don't know. All these people getting exciting post and all that I got today was a bastard file.

Oh, and a box for the cat - but that's most deliveries.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Thanks for the offer but I've sussed it already. U7, the diode bridge is completely and totally nuked. It's borked on amps and ohms. I'm going to desolder it and see where I get...

Aaand it's perma-fucked. I've just identified that the second layer of rotary switch wiper is actually curled up from the amount of current that blew the original HRC fuse  :-DD

I've left this image full size as it was difficult to photograph and see.

So I've got £20 worth of F25 bits at least out of that. Works on volts still.

And here's my found Gorilla activity to add to today's lesson in don't trust the prior tech.

See photo. I found why ALT mode not working on the Type 3A6. Remember these 2 transistors with the long legs? Well, that's Q263 on the left and Q260 on the right. They should be the same part number. Do they look like the same part number to you? They should both be Tech Spec 151-0228-00. Q260 is actually P/N 151-0220-00.  :palm: It's causing intermittent sync pulse. Just for giggles I swapped Q260 and Q263 and now everything works. For now I'll leave it that way but later I'll go out on Ebay and see if I can source one and a suitable substitute.

FUCKING GORILLAS

Yeah, med already mentioned that; clearly the plugin was handled carelessly and got dropped. Happens a lot more than we'd care to admit; an occupational hazard with these scopes. ;)

med, dooya think that mismatched part coulda just been a old blind bastard like me misread the numbers...? I mean, it was just one digit, and we all know those plastic packages have a lot of variation. Alternately, coulda-shoulda been a matched pair, which obvi they are not, even if it was the same part number.

Well lucky day for me. Turns out I already had a 151-0228-00 on hand. Back in June when I was working on the Type 561B and I created the smoke and flames the PSU used that transistor so I ordered one just in case. Turns out the original was OK and in addition I now have that Type 561B parts unit thanks to Nixiefreqq. So the 151-0220-00 was removed and correct part installed. Now solid ALT function and this finally fixes all the issues with this Type 3A6 plug-in.

What's now left is calibration/gain adjustments and compensation.

Anybody's looking for a mouth simulator ? There's a BRUEL & KJAER 4227 on ebay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BRUEL-KJAER-4227-MOUTH-SIMULATOR-ARTIFICIAL-VOICE-LOOK-REF-289G/2030796521631

Funny not exactly what I had in my head when thinking about a mouth simulator.

Yea, that's the Channel 1 Trigger Only switch and it works OK despite being slightly bent so I'm leaving it.

OK, just one digit off. Yea, shit happens. But wouldn't the fact that the damn thing didn't work after the change be a fucking clue?  :palm:

AKA a 2N4888 according to one rubric. PNP, VBCEO=150V, hfe=500 @ 1mA 10V, IC=100mA max, PTOT300mW max, ft=160 MHz.

Still made as the PN4888 by On Semi.

Just paying it forwards again, I've had lots of help before, now its my turn to help  :-+

Also the 2nd wafer is not perma-fucked either, It'll be good to bring another Fluke back into the useful world again. I take it the display is OK, all of my spare ones are knackered.
