Just sniped a bargain:
16 pieces of 1k resistors, Vishay S102C (Y00071K00000T9L) 0.01% for ca. 77 Euro.   :-+

https://www.ebay.de/itm/133490619724

This is what they cost at Mouser's:

Oooohhh... Tasty.  >:D   A excellent candidates for a series/parallel reference PCB like mine:

I've just snagged 80 0.03% resistors between 100mohm and 1Mohm for £34+35%. They are ready mounted on switches with a 2mohm resistance, and in a nice enclosure with the legend "JJ Instruments R802 Resistance Box".

There were 4 other examples, which went for £50-80+35%. I'm not sure why I was lucky; the only visible reason is that mine was upside down on the shelf :)

Since I'm in a somewhat fey mood, I'll rub salt in BU's wound by linking to something he'll remember: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/test-equipment-anonymous-(tea)-group-therapy-thread/msg2891182/#msg2891182  >:D

I just stumbled across this while trying to find any evidence of whether these HP mugs are dishwasher safe; it has probably been posted in here before, but I couldn't resist linking to this fantastic timesink glimpse inside Hp That Was... http://hpmemoryproject.org/timeline/john_minck/inside_hp_01.htm

I found Bob DeVries' story and recollections to be fascinating.

Tough to see the way that HP degenerated from their former greatness to what they are now, but I guess entropy always increases.

The replacement 7586 nuvistors finally arrived. Changed out both in the front end of Type 3A6 Channel 1 and the massive DC offset/balance issue is fixed. So now have to swap them back one at a time to determine which one is defective. But I want to let it cook for a while just to make sure.

One more issue to fix. In ALT mode for some reason Channel 1 vanishes. And in CHOP mode Channel 1 is intermittent. This plug-in was a real basket case but it is coming back to life.  :-+

I'm glad they made it in one piece.  I still have the remnants of mine in their boxes sitting on the shelf while I wait for a refund in case I need to take more pictures if it has to be escalated.  That packing job.  I don't know what to say about that packing job that I could post without getting in trouble.

After warm up and adjustment of the DC Balance Channel 1 is now stable. Switching between NORMAL and INVERT shows no shift. Prior to nuvistor change the trace would go completely off screen.

I usually respond that "it is against our company policy to use undocumented equipment, just so you know when the time comes for replacement".

Not that it helps, but it might plant a seed!

I'm still trying to pluck up the courage to get the 1kV supply working, without a schematic.

I've got an UltraVolt 0-1kV adjustable DC to DC convertor I picked up for a song a while back. The plan is to, when I get around to it, stick it in a safe case with a pot on the front to provide an HV source for things like high resistance measurements and other general TEA purposes. When I got it I obviously needed to test that it was OK and worked properly and I don't mind telling you that I was a bit trepidatious about having a live, uncased, 1 kV source out on the bench.
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

I have an HV problems, a 20kV (probably) scope probe and a 40kV analogue meter that barely registers 2kV.

No, I'm not rewriting my will to gift you the divider. But my daughter will be in touch; she is a more hard faced bargainer than I am.

Late last year I picked up a ESI DB655A 6 decade 0.02% box for £40. It goes nicely with the DB877A 8 decade 0.01% I bought at the MIT flea market 18 years ago for $25. (the one time out of many business trips to the Boston area that I was there for the fleamarket).
These don't have 60 and 80 resistors though, they use a R/2R type scheme.
