Bought another HP power supply. Needs a bit of knob repair.

May kick the PL320 back onto eBay if this one is not wonky.

HP stack growing  :-DD

Repair by a knob sounds right up your alley.

That's OK, you Brits can fuss all you want.

Today's date is 08/10/20.

Only the UK and former colonies, plus the Japanese, have right hand drive.

I'm cool as cucumber in my A/C while you Brits bake.

 >:D ;D
Well we tried to teach you how to drive on the left and become more civilized in general, including how dates work but all you did is drive us away, so we came back and left you red necks to your own devices but you blew it as always  >:D :-DD :-DD :-DD

We tossed your fucking tea in the harbor....remember?  :-DD

Turns out I got everything done this afternoon and here it is....

Window on the right has the all important A/C.  :-DD

Closet on the right is TEA stuff.  :-+

And...it's 95 degrees FAHREHEIT outside, 72 degrees FAHREHEIT in the bedroom, and 75 degrees FAHREHEIT in the living room. And later on I have to drive 3 MILES and pick up a QUART of milk.  :P :P :P >:D >:D :-DD

[...] When in Dublin last year I felt somewhat uncomfortable with the traffic on the wrong side of the road. [...]

I find that driving on either side is fine, I can do it on autopilot...  as long as there are other cars on the road!  -  if there is no traffic, the internal autopilot sometimes gives up and asks the pilot to take over...   leaving me to suddenly wake up and have no idea about what side of the road I should be on!   :scared:

Why go round in a small roundabout if you can go just over it ?

This little BASTARD cap...

So I’m putting together my parts list for the 54645A, and I can’t find a schizzmatic or component level parts list to save my life. Of COURSE, this is the side jammed up tight against the heat sink so I can’t tell what voltage, and parametric search on DigiKey returns bupkis for this value in the current P561 product line.

So I bite the bullet and remove the little stinkbomb; it’s a bit of a PITA due to silicone spooge entanglement, but not too bad. I keep telling myself.

I get my numbers, and I look for anything close available locally, but no. Gonna have to order. *sigh*

I go about cleaning up the pads on this and another bastard cap that was completely obfuscated with a heat-shrink wetsuit, and the ground pad is just a complete dicksore to get clear. Tried solder-wick multiple times, even dipped in flux, tried solder-sucker several times and finally got it by propping up the board on edge so I could get sucker on one side and big chisel iron on BOOST contacting the other side. That GND fill was just sucking away the heat like a vortex.

So now I want to put it all back together until parts arrive... and I realize I do NOT want to do that desoldering job ever again for fear of cooking the PCB to death.

Fuck me. With a shovel. Sideways. * |O

I usually apply more solder, wet the joint and wiggle it out on those, even with the Metcal at it. Give it breaks to cool down between attempts.

Nothing touches ground plane joints easily. I had to rework the fuckers once with a weller vacuum iron and it was hell.

You did notice that it's 300 mA / 600 mA not the 3A / 6A in the description?  :-DD

Right hand drive once, on a vacation in Scotland. I put about 300 miles on a rental. It was a Vauxhall sedan. Didn't make any stupid mistakes but it was exhausting because you had to be constantly aware, especially at roundabouts. And even though I'm a southpaw I found shifting the 5 speed gearbox with the left hand a little perplexing.  :-//

Btw, would have expected a skyblue ceiling with clouds on it.   :-DD

When I called the rental agency at Edinburgh airport and they found out I was a Yank they wanted to give me a little roller skate Suzuki with an automatic. I said no and I wanted a decent car and if it had a stick shift that was OK. I wanted the full experience. Right hand drive and shift with the left hand.  :-+

Bunch of pussies. Try driving in London, as in the city bit, in gridlocked traffic, in a manual for 20 years. My left arm and leg are bigger than the right one.

Complaining about Scotland and roundabouts  :palm: :palm: :palm: :palm:

In London I see more moving cars by the time I've gone one street than I saw all day last time I drove along the whole length of the A82 and A85 in Scotland (Ballachulish to Oban).

HP 1725A near me (40 mile round trip). However I’m not getting it as that 1740A ruined me.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333682202920

So anyone else fancy a trip to Bracknell?

Edit: also it’s fucking heavy, my arm hurts and I have my eye on another one ending tomorrow.
