How many devices on the planet has still those gremlins inside?
Too many.
BD,
Are you including the backlight mod?

Not with this one. My objective with kit is a relatively uncompromising restoration to original condition and repair only. I will suffer the shitty display for that or at least until a 3456A turns up
How many devices on the planet has still those gremlins inside?
Always too many !
Caps replaced. Look at these bastards. The cracked ones were actually across the switch not the mains which was interesting. One of the smaller ones is missing the top because I popped it with the pliers getting it out.
Yeah, I also find these in my 3478A. But can't replace them yet because I want get cal values out first before I mess them.
It isn't as easy as it looks to get them out but you can do it without messing up the cal data:
Rear ones (1000pF Y2's between line and ground):
1. Unplug the rear IEE488 cable from the board.
2. Replace (easy but a bit fiddly)
Side ones (22nF Y2's across switch):
1. take side frame of instrument off (7 screws)
2. Loosen power switch
3. Desolder old ones wiggling slowly and pull out with tweezers
4. Stuff new ones in (painful but doable)
No cal data risk there. Unless you drop something on the board
