On the subject of test gear, I have this gauss meter that was dumped in my lap for free when I picked up my HP 3475A LCR meter.
I don't have probes for it and have yet to get a quote... How useful are these things, Any votes on restoration vs a retirement teardown?

I have the MS8910 and I read that this model grips the part better. How did they make the tweezers work better? I'm thinkin' I can bend or file mine to match ... 

Better material maybe ? other than the model number, the MS8910 and MS8911 seem to be really different.

LOL you need to spend a day here. 

Comparing the two versions, I'm convinced the main issue is the way the older ones are curved and pointed. It's applying the force at a single point and if that point is not stable the part will fly off. The newer design has more surface area applying force since it's not applied in such a small point but along a slightly longer area.

So I plan on duplicating the bend to fix it, and filing the ends a bit to remove the sharp point. I will return with results only if I have success. 

P.S. I guess that's why they gave a backup set of ends - so the user can figure out how to fix the design themselves.

Bought Another CRTU-RU (CMU-200 alike)


10MHz - 2.7GHZ spectrum analyser, full function not crippled like HP test sets, and 100kHz to 2.7GHz signal generator
 
The analyser stack is getting a bit tall though

NHS for you. They strap it and you have to come back 2 days later to "fracture clinic". They only cast it right up if it is unstable.

By "NHS" do you mean UK "National Health Care" System? I'll make a blatant assumption that you do.

... It also come with a calibration certificate. Not sure of the accuracy but at least the serial number on the tweezer and the certificate is the same

Overall not bad for a 46$ LCR meter 

Printed model number and date (dot matrix style) but stick-on serial number - I'd not trust that.

Could make sense. Serial number is printed during production. Calibration paper is done after with different equipment. They just stick the serial num sticker on the calibration paper. Anyway, I'm really satisfied with calibration. Like I said, accuracy is better than specs.

Pain killers working. Unfortunately the 6206b is fairly scratched up on the front from some gorilla removing a sticker. Apart from that looks ok. Nice and clean and has 10t pot

Thanks Kosmic for that pic. Yep the pointy end is different. Mine end in a sharp point and those have a double-point and they are not curved as much as mine.
