This a strange shape for a potatoe!

You are J. Danforth Quayle and I claim my five pounds!

Isn't it sad that we've reached a state of affairs where something like being unable to spell potato in one of the world's most senior politicians is so minor compared to their other manifest failings that it would no longer be worthy of comment.

Ahh, one of the lies that just won't die.

Here's the 585A showing a stable trigger on a signal more than twice the datasheet bandwidth for the 585A + type 82 plugin system.  :-+ Yes, it's way rolled off, but it's rock stable.

really really like the look of that scope.

and the "mountain O hp" in the background is giving me heart palpitation's.

but it still feels like something is missing.

(pm me your new address ......... and yes!  you could complete your bench with a "my little pony" calculator)

Yes...a nixie counter would look great. I also have another HP-15C on the way....  >:D

another hp-15c?   where is is coming from........philistia?

I've bought a few minutes ago one of the coolest counters ever.   :scared:   :-+

A Rohde & Schwarz FER BN 4721    8)

Cool!
What kind of tube are the right hand digits?

These are Valvo E1T. Here is a description in German.

Pictures from the website:

Video from Martin.M.

Good explanation about how this tube is working. In english.

Edit: added animated gif.  :-+

Edit 2: Added the mp4 video from Martin.M.'s website where one can watch this counter in operation.

Edit 3: found a good explanation in english. I'll throw all this stuff together, when I'm posting a teardown of this counter here.  :)

That looks like a winner  :-+

Random comment of the day: single supply analogue circuits are ick. Bring back +/-15v  >:(.  Designed a sallen-key and ported it to single supply. Now the coupling capacitors and reference supply are dicking with me. This is 50Hz ish thus it’s requiring large coupling capacitors. Grr. Don’t need them if it’s 0v dual supply! Might end up cheaper adding a DC/DC converter at this rate. Oh then there’s noise! So fuck that, AC wall wart and minimal dual rail linear regulator. Nope can’t get any here now. Fuuuck.

... 2 days later. 2u rack mounted box with toroidal linear supply and one euro card with 6 opamps on it  :-DD

Any of our German contingent have any experience with this company?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/komerci-elektronik/m.html?item=152854262717&epid=2264707315&hash=item2396d2f3bd%3Ag%3APn0AAOSweCVZwmuO&var=452594582885&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

I'm looking at getting a magnifier and stand from them, either the 9006 or 9002.

Grab a second hand Luxo if you can. Was considering this but feel free to dive on it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174349223227

Can retro fit LED bulbs.

I think I'm gonna dive on that if nobody else does.
Already in my watch list, may the best man win  :-+

Thanks bd.

I'm not interested in a bidding war, I'll check for others/new.

I like the Komerci 9006 because you can swap the lenses.

Its on my watch list but with hind sight, I don't really need it, I picked one up from Maplin before they closed and it does a good job, so I'm watching what it does and I expect its going to climb to double its price, too rich for me, I'm a cheapskate  :-DD

I have one of those myself. I put it in an acrylic case and it does indeed work quite well and I use it if I need a second frequency meter, otherwise I use my TF930.

If you'd followed the link, it would have revealed an article that tells the whole truth rather more clearly, including a quote from J. Danforth himself about the incident. It still stands that Quayle blithely aided and abetted incorrect spelling.

Probably, but it became a standing joke, with him as the butt of it. You can do more damage to a politician's reputation with a well honed joke (with a nub of truth) than you can with a complete documentary series that makes provably manifest all their significant failings and crimes.

Yes, I'm afraid you have been bodged. If you want a cheap counter that actually works, BG7TBL makes quite nice ones up to 6 or 12GHz, and
they have a reasonable sensitivity and a usable timebase plus external reference input.
If it must be, PIC base counters with prescalers could reach 1-2GHz and they work too, for 10 bucks.

@worsthorse: how deep are you going to dig that ground? What's your soil like?

soil is clay, mostly. probably twelve inches for the trench.

All it took for me was to see him onstage running next to a guy who made people disappear for Nixon. That used up all my charity. >:(

But yeah, I get what you're saying; Chevy Chase very nearly single-handedly destroyed Gerald Ford. Back in the day, we could still shame a politician into doing the right thing. So they developed a shame-resistant strain of the virus, and here we are...  courting Armageddon with people who actually are actively trying to bring it about in some of the highest offices in the land. :palm:
