It has been way too nice outside to spend time in the basement, however pressing the repair queue and inventory projects might be, so I've been catching up with long procrastinated-upon projects. We have a deck off the side porch, which was looking bad after a couple of very wet winters. I decided it was time to clean it (pressure washing, borax and oxygen bleach scrub down, etc) which took two full days. Unfortunately, the post cleaning inspection revealed that the dirt and moss were the only thing holding much of the deck together.   |O

Three days and 200 board feet of cedar later (before the last board was dropped into place):

Tomorrow I will clean and re-seal the rest of the teak furniture, which will garner me many many bonus points with SWMBO, before digging a trench to run some a new ground for my vertical and GPS antennas.  Will also try to sneak in some time to finish fixing the second of the two Alan attenuators (the first is done).

@worsthorse: how deep are you going to dig that ground? What's your soil like?

I fucking need a real scope.  |O
How in the hell, you never did buy a used scope !  :o
Only the full heaven you get is through the viewport of a scope.

I have several 2465s, a 1054Zed and a V212; that since I pared down my inventory for the move from Tejas. Thanks to bitseeker my 454 found a good home, and my 2230 went to another eevBlog member, tho I haven't heard from him in a while so it may well have met the rendering saw. Problem is 98% of my bench is locked away in a storage depot on the Dumbfuckistan side of the Rainbow Bridge.  :palm:

The 6022 was SUPPOSED TO be "just to get me by" until we made some progress on immigration; then the pandemic and now, here I am, a year later with a toy scope and a couple meters.  |O

Every time I see something that looks like half-decent at a price I can live with, everybody in here tells me to save my money for something better.

And to top it off, I had the last of those 200MHz OWON 'scopes from the Arrow Blowout of '19 IN MY CART, ready to push the buy button... and talked myself out of it, thinking I was being too selfish.

Yeah good for you as you wouldn't find a 200 milli Hertz scope particularly useful.  :P

Actually, it's not a potato... it's a damn good camera with amazing optics and a macro function that for the most part just fucking WORKS. It's just like 10 generations out of date. The quality is why it still hangs around; for posting things from my bench on the 'net I don't need oodles of MP, I need decent focus and zero assache. Which, aside from fixing the damage I've done to it myself over the last decade or so, is exactly what it has given. :-//

I was shooting direct to card at my conventions while everybody I knew was still using disposable baggie-cams...

On a note closer to home...

As I may have mentioned earlier, as a result of recent acquisitions, I am going to be reorganising my work area.  This will involve an almost complete breaking down of what's currently in place and rebuilding from the desktop up.  This is going to be a fun project.   :scared:

One of my first challenges is to find a solution for lighting as I do photography here.  The old lights and fittings are just not going to work.  As a result, I've started a thread on the subject: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/high-cri-lighting-whats-available-and-where-to-get-them/msg3143912/#msg3143912

Once an acceptable lighting solution has been identified and successfully tested, the rest of the redesign can be worked around it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Photography is definitely one of my expensive pastimes - have been playing with it since senior year in HS back in 1982. (That it has been that long is in possible - I am not that old!). I took my first hit of real photographer's crack in 2004 when I bought my first DSLR and got a 24-70 f/2.8L lens to go with it.  Those damned red rings are addictive.  My old 20D is still sitting in a drawer waiting for me to replace the shutter - wore it out doing time lapses during the house renovation in 2011.  Apparently there's a contact that tells the camera that the shutter is cocked and it eventually fatigues and breaks off.  Figure if/when I finally do something with it I might change out the sensor filter to convert it to shoot near IR.  ...some day...

Nothing wrong with a Kodak DC120  apart from it make you look like a trekkie  ;D
I still have one and it still works have out lasted several others including canon, Minolta and Sony models.

For DLSR I still have my 20D bought in the USA when they had just came out. I was going to buy a Nikon D100 bit it was in northern CA and Ritz (remember them) had the franchise and the staff were useless. Went to a local independent and bought the 20D and a couple of L lenses. The independent was still coing last time I was there long after Ritz went bust for th second time.
Paid cash, I had $15,000 from selling a bit of specialist aircraft TE to a dealer. Paid $28 for it on ebay, those were the days. If you broke the thing you would have got about $100 worth of bits but if doing a particualr aircraft job there was nohting else approved for the task and the OEM sold them for about $120,000 as they had a captive market and wanted to stop other other shops doing the work. I guess anti-trust rules made them sell it but didn't say for how much.

Self-inflicted I think, stop listening to all those wanna enablers, you know what you want and you want it, if you can afford, even if it is the thrift store, you also know that you can add bloody value to it, so buy it, do it, use it, and when the time comes, flip it and move upwards bit by bit, stop being a dragon fly and be a real dragon again, we want our lovable Dwagon back again.  ::)

Well, I'm not German but I've bought from them before.

https://www.ebay.de/itm/152655171367

I like it, I use it, tossed it on the floor numerous times, still works. Also bought some soldering tweezer. Like it less, but it works and its OK for the price.

Here's the 585A showing a stable trigger on a signal more than twice the datasheet bandwidth for the 585A + type 82 plugin system.  :-+ Yes, it's way rolled off, but it's rock stable.

really really like the look of that scope.

and the "mountain O hp" in the background is giving me heart palpitation's.

but it still feels like something is missing.

(SNIP lots of really insightful exposition, just for brevity's sake ;))   ...Now, with Hold Off turned on, the counter actually shows plausible frequency measurements up to around 200kHz. Above its garbage.   This is another hint the COAC most probably is fine, but the CEX board might be faulty, as this acts as a prescaler and high resolution extension to the COAC.

Some excellent deductive reasoning there, Detective. Well played!  We look forward to the results when you come to a contusion on it's ultimate ailment!

This a strange shape for a potatoe!

You are J. Danforth Quayle and I claim my five pounds!

Isn't it sad that we've reached a state of affairs where something like being unable to spell potato in one of the world's most senior politicians is so minor compared to their other manifest failings that it would no longer be worthy of comment.

I'm looking at getting a magnifier and stand from them, either the 9006 or 9002.

Grab a second hand Luxo if you can. Was considering this but feel free to dive on it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174349223227

Can retro fit LED bulbs.

I can second the 2nd-hand Luxo, if you can find one like I did at the thrift, etc... I picked up one of their Circline-bulb models:      a few months ago, even tho I already had THIS      and I quite like it aside from the inevitable PWM noise. The LUXO is all cast-aluminum head and joints with epoxy paint; it is a joy in the hand and built to last 2 lifetimes, so def worth the project time it will someday become, and the assache of squirreling it away for the future. ;)

Another brand to look for is DAZOR; like LUXO, they manufacture for commercial and medical applications.  :-+

Hell, if that one were on this side of the pond, I'd probably seriously consider going for it just to get the base, whether or not the light works; I have several work tables that I just can't get any swingarm lamp to cooperate with due to very thick metal frame underneath that the usual clamp-bases just can't accommodate.
