I have a sickness... THE Sickness...  >:D

Picked this up a few days ago as well... for no other reason than to be able to say I'd owned one.  :-DD

This is the Big Mandingo of the Z-series; DTS 5.1, 10" sub and 505 THX-certified watts of power. Favorite Lindström flush-cutters shown for scale and to keep it somewhat TEA. :P

The whole speaker bundle cost me ~US$30 altogether (they priced the fucking speakers, control head, etc separately...  |O)  and has passed at least the initial smoke test satisfactorily. The only thing I didn't get with is the remote; that may surface on a subsequent afternoon of Thrifting.  :-//

We shall see how that turns out later... right now I have my garage full of industrial sewing machines (curb score from a house in process of make-ready) that I know precisely ZERO about, but my mother's ghost made me save them from the dumpster. She was a textile maestro and I'm sure she'd have plotzed if she saw these.

I know the Juki single-stitch is supposed to be a freaking warhorse; I at least remember that name. I need to do some more research to learn enough that I might be able to flip these quick. Worst case, I get some nice motors and a workbench for the garage. :-+ Gotta figure it out quick, tho... ...Now, tell me again what is the unique attraction of flying a Foxbat? ;)

Short version: Testosterone poisoning vs adrenaline-junky-ing.  :-DD  Not much more complicated than that, I think.  ;)

Hmm. More like willy-waving posing vs mainlining adrenaline, I think.

No competition :)

A colleague at a voluntary EE job I was doing a few years back was into making his own synths and brought a Soviet hand-held radio tube to show me, amazing how much they managed to compact those things down by the 1990s, it was about the size of half a AAA cell.   :o

Nuvistors, as in my Tek 184, are 20mm high including pins, 10mm diameter.

This had a glass envelope, 7 or 8 pins, and was very complex internally. A thing of beauty and all that.

For those interested, there's a current TekScopes thread "Some interesting Nuvistor information"

that's all not as adrenaline-poisoning as being the Launch Control Officer who just received the go from ATC to let the birds fly when a glider is coming out of the sun flying right across your ramps.

Replacement of a 3 section 20uf/350V wired in parallel with a single 68uf/350V. 4uf/200V axial replaced with a 4.7uf/200V. 150V/5W zener replaced with same. The +150V now reads +153V vs +144V before. Success. The bias did need to be adjusted again.

There is still much more to do to rebuild the balance of the PSU including ordering more capacitors. Once that's done do a complete calibration.

Tomorrow work on the - fast rise output and find out what's wrong with that GR connector.

I wasn't aware that adrenaline caused your buttocks to clench tightly shut :)

I'd be happy if powered pilots looked at their 1:250,000 maps (as required by law), and avoided gliding sites where winching occurs. Many times I've seen them overfly the runway at below release altitude. Usually we spot them and don't launch, but sometimes they nearly get a wing sawn off. We think the glider would be OK; the weak link and back release should be sufficient. The winch would be different; you have to hope the cable guillotine would operate effectively.

Occasionally they land and refuse to believe they've landed at the wrong airfield, until their nose is pointed at the big stone "AD" pointing at the sky. (Aston Down)

NOTAMs? In our dreams!

If we had shot him down there would have been quite some fuss.
And I seriously doubt that he can react fast enough.

I'd offer bean (or someone like him) 75€ to make you something actually nice out of hardwood that incorporates the intact knob subpanel.  >:D

Eh... WOOD?!?

You don't mind when you wake up with wood; why should you mind if you wake up with wood on your 'scope...?  :-DD

Tastefully done wood, of course.  >:D

That's about all you can do in a powered light aircraft. Go somewhere, have a cup of coffee in the airfield caff, go home. Anything unexpected is, by definition, frightening.

But in a glider you can have unexpected good experiences, and you do :)
