Try booting it on an M600... /-\|/-\|/-\ ... hmm hang  >:(

NetBSD boots fine on it.

My cat curiosity would like to see if pfSense (close brother to FreeBSD) also hangs on the M600.

I setup the entire afternoon a OpenVPN server in my pfSense box. Finally I won!

And here at work in my office does not work on my Android Phone. Well I can connect but no internet connection from my home.

My tunnel VPN Network is 10.103.8.0/24

The DHCP Wifi VPN at Work gives me as following:
IP: 10.180.22.103
Gateway: 10.180.0.1
Prefix: 17 (255.255.255.128.0)

In the past I had just to change my VPN Tunnel to 192.168.150.0/24 and boom everything was ok.
Now I want to understand why:

1) Tomorrow I take my private laptop at work and will give it a test.
2) Outside my "office VPN Network" everything works fine.

I tought I understood the IP jazz dance ...  :-[ :(

I have OpenVPN on my pfsense since a while  and I use it with my phone and laptop.
Everything works great but I cannot use it work because they are blocking  the ports or trafic.

Anyway if you want to have a good introduction to pfsense and vpn, you can have a look at :

I will try it later if I get some time. I'm rebuilding the media centre M600 I have just set up to swap the SSD for a smaller one (only needs a few gig so I will jam a 16gb one I have lying around in it).

This is depressing  :-DD

psykok and bd thanks,

Look at here

Quote
Protocol

UDP - TCP is undesirable because every lost packet is retransmitted, and if TCP is used inside the tunnel it will be retransmitted anyway. This will slow down the VPN if there is a lot of lost traffic on the WAN connection. TCP is really only useful to bypass firewalls, in which case the port should be set to 443 as almost no one blocks access to that port. The protocol must match on each side.

Hi Zucca,

I've added two drawings of mine as an explanation. I hope, this makes it a little bit clearer to you.

Clean the carbon pads by rubbing GENTLY with a Q-tip soaked in IPA. A little carbon rubbed off is okay (enough to see a shadowy smear); if you rub off enough to turn the Q-tip black, too hard or try a different solvent.

Yea ... I've cleaned the contacts and carbon "pills" very well when I got the scope several years ago. I'm going to clean again but how are they getting dirty? I don't think it's an issue with cleaning.

Ah, the NASA "space pen" answer. An alternative is to go all Russian and use a pencil. In this case, a nice soft pencil and just touch up the surface of the pads by giving them a good scribbling. Just blow off any loose graphite after you're finished. It may not be clever, it may not be pretty, but it's worked for me in the past. I have very soft artist's graphite 'crayons' handy (no wood, just a very thick 'lead' with a paper wrapper) so I can't offer too much useful guidance on what grade of pencil to use, but I reckon that a 4B would be a fair starting point.

Very interesting solution. I'm putting that as a probable thing to try after I investigate something ...

When I had to repair these carbon buttons I used in the past some gold foil. Worked nicely but a little bit tricky to handle. Don't! Breathe!

Again interesting idea, may try that.

I just took some old remote control and used a blade to remove the carbon pad from a rarely used button. I then removed the non-working carbon pad and glued the "new" one on.

Yes replacing the pads is another thing that people do and no doubt it works.

But ... I'm going to do an investigation for a little while and keep this on the bench. The PCB that the keys are pressing against is pristine and as clean as can be, so we know it's the carbon pill pads. But what I want to look at involves a microscope. There is something interesting when I use a magnifying glass ... If I find anything interesting I will post pics.

Thanks.
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

Hi Zucca,
I've added two drawings of mine as an explanation. I hope, this makes it a little bit clearer to you.

Thank you very much for your efforts, it was close to reality but not exactely.
The VPN Tunnel Network is this not my local Network at home, see here.

Quote
Tunnel Network – Should be a new, unique network that does not exist anywhere in the current network or routing table.

Local Network – The network here on the server that the clients will need to reach

My Local Network is 172.27.36.0/24.

What I do not get is how this 10.180.0.0/17 conficts somehow with this 10.103.8.0/24.

It doesn't. The netmasks separates these two subnets. I don't know how big your company is, but I think it is very likely, that your company is using the 10.103.8.0 IP adresses somewhere else. Or, the routing table on the VPN gateway / firewall has been configured wrongly. To find out what is going on, you should use traceroute (tracert) or mtr (Winmtr for windows)

This!  :-+, it could be! I will test and report back.

If it's like most companies I've worked for their IPAM will be based on snooting coke in the toilets and counting the dots of blood on the tissue to issue new network numbers.

10.0.0.0/8 as a VPN tunnel network? This is insane! It should be something like /24 ... /22, depeneding on the amount of users. But /8 is way too big!

The tracerouting looks like, that the returnpath isn't working --> routing table.
If you are using this 192.168.x.x network, then it will use the correct gateway.

I suggest to do a comparison of these two configurations, then you should easily spot where the problem is (IP address)

Anyone know how to restore carbon button contacts?

I cleaned all these once when I got this Agilent 54622D and now it seems some buttons need to be pressed "hard" to get a response. I measured a resistance of ~ 300 - 800 ohms when pressing on the pad hard with a DMM. Do I need to "scruff up " the pads with something? All the PCB contacts look clean and I just cleaned them again with alcohol.

If anyone else has one can you verify same or different response than mine?  :-//

When I had to repair these carbon buttons I used in the past some gold foil. Worked nicely but a little bit tricky to handle. Don't! Breathe!

Clean the carbon pads by rubbing GENTLY with a Q-tip soaked in IPA. A little carbon rubbed off is okay (enough to see a shadowy smear); if you rub off enough to turn the Q-tip black, too hard or try a different solvent.

I've cleaned membrane touchpads like this in this manner for decades; only damaged a few that were already crumbly and had left bits of carbon on the PCB.

If they're well & truly FUBAR, you could try a carbon pad repair kit
Good luck,

mnem

Ah, the NASA "space pen" answer. An alternative is to go all Russian and use a pencil. In this case, a nice soft pencil and just touch up the surface of the pads by giving them a good scribbling. Found a 4B pencil. Fuck it, I'll try it

I'm a little surprised no-one has yet suggested replacing them with Cherry MX keyboard switches...

Of course I meant some 10.x.y.0/24 inside the big 10.0.0.0/8 pond.

I just tested from my work PC, I wanted to know how my IP company network range are...

Anyway, I will just change the VPN tunnel to 192.168.200.0/24 and report back, easy fix. I hope.

I should have my .6A slow blow fuses tomorrow from Mouser...then will be the moment of truth on whether that 184 actually works or not. The seller offered me a partial refund, but I haven't gotten any reply on a proposed amount...

Did you manage to find a replacement for the piece that you're missing? If not, I have a container full of (mostly vintage HP style) fuse holders that I can rummage through to see if I have one that fits that I can send to you.

It went dark... After 18 years or loyal service, the vacuum cleaners motor decided to eat the remaining chunk of one of it brushes and blew the fuse... There goes the money I had put aside for my next TEA acquisition :(
