Sorry to dig out something old, any other DNS you can suggest? Even not free DNS is something I would consider (;-) my few $/year to fastmail are the best investment I made since a long time, sooo....).

Run your own ... basically a bind9 on a raspberry or whatever will do the job.

One of the great problems with monopolists is that you get a reduced choice. Its very much what they stock, take it or leave it, consumer choice is eroded.
It's more sinister than that. After monopolists or duopolists destroy the market they can set the prices, quality and level of service. Upstarts can't dream to compete with anything with the resources of Amazon. Sometimes a lot of investor money is used to intentionally disrupt the market and buy dominance. What follows is never good for the consumer.

No matter how good Bezos' teat tastes, a monoculture is bad for employee and customer alike. It's not as if that "increased efficiency" is used to improve the conditions for the workers either.

thanks BU508A!

That's why I am asking, to many good DNS people shooted down? why?

I am already scared about the incoming mansaxel post, either it would be very long and complicated and I will stare at my monitor like Homer Simpson or it will be a straight answer "Use this: DNS X" and I will left with a lot of noob questions in my head.

Either way I am worried to look like a rental car lady: I can talk but I can't say useful thing...

Forgive me in advance you DNS dragons Gods.

I already do (pfSense with Unbound), but I HAVE to trust some DNS Servers outside my home. So which DNS Service outside my home can I trust?
Sorry if it was a stupid reply, I am still learning.

Am I the only one curious to know what Dave does think about us? He barely mention us.
PS: A big thank to you all, not only we do not need a mod, but also there is always something interesting to learn here and the tech level is very high for my standards.
I think you'll find that Dave does some moderation himself and there are others that help. If you watch many of his videos he often mentions us in them as we are now one of if the biggest threads on the forum and I think that he is very proud of his forum and rightly so. I understand that it is possibly the largest in the world but I do often wonder just how much longer he can continue to finance it given the current state of the world. I think we owe a lot to Dave for his generosity in provided us with this lovely platform and I for one salute him.

Do you need internal or external DNS?

External DNS for your domain -> just use gandi.net for domain reg and point NS entries at fastmail's DNS (see in fastmail settings UI under domains). Looks after DMARC/SPF/DKIM etc for you which is a bloody nightmare otherwise :-//

Internal DNS -> fuck it, just use whatever comes with your router / firewall. Not worth any more effort than that. If you want to use it for content blocking, just use ublock in a browser.

Upstream DNS from your ISP -> just use google's DNS servers.

Lazy as hell and works.

If it ever disappears I'll quite happily fund + sysadmin another forum for TEA out of my own pocket on digitalocean or something. And it'll not throw quite as many 503's  :-DD

As some of you are a lot more versed in computer matters, maybe someone can help:
- my T60 does have a headphone jack and an external mic jack. Does that mean that it will not take those headsets with a 4-circuit tip-and-ring connector?
- Can a computer headset have a PTT key?
- I'm looking for a lightweight headset, with minimal pressure. I would like it to have a volume control, and, if that exists, a PTT. But it should be able to work without PTT too. Should be good/premium quality. No gaming headset, no closed ones.

I can recommend this one (I've bought it for the discord sessions, works nicely under Linux):

The microphone is on the left!!?? That's messed up! :D

It's probably the biggest electronics and engineering forum but I doubt it's anywhere near the biggest. Considering there are ads on here I don't think it's a loss leader either.

New toy arrived. In new old stock condition

This is Voltmeter/Picoammeter.
With lowest metrologically significant current 10^-15A and resolution 10^-16A.
As voltmeter this unit can measure voltages from 10uV to 200V with input impedance is greater than 10^14.

This unit is 30year old, and demanded replacement of electrolytic capacitors, which was done. I'm replaced old capacitors with new Epcos B41858 and B41859 series.

Some techporn, input commutator with sapphire insulators:

That's a very attractive little meter. Nice find!

Thats possibly true, I don't see the adds because I use an adblocker but it means that in order to keep the forum alive, I'd gladly switch it off. And in fact I have just done so.

The ads here are not automatically traded and don't send data everywhere. They're essentially just flat self hosted pictures, which is the only acceptable way of doing them. Other sites insist "that's not how ads work nowadays" but they can suck it.

Congratulations on naming my script  :-DD  :-DD

Some luck. Working on timestamps now ...

Todo:

1. Date capture
2. Paging
3. Rewrite image links + download images from forum / 3rd party sites (harder than it sounds)
4. Rewrite internal forum links.
5. Render intermediate format (json) to archival format (html)

Probably give up for the day now as I'm bored now.

Just have a Tampermonkey script loop through all the pages and save them as is. If it's ever needed you just hire some Indians to copy paste everything into a proper database. Don't tell me it's janky as I know you've seen jankier things in production.
