Nope, not great at all...

Is this another case of life following TEA discussions..?

That LM323 is a 5V linear reg iirc, has it failed short and assassinated the transformer?   :-DD

Follow up plans: The cleaning and removal of stickers is done. Both top and bottom panels are going to get painted. Get rid of that faded beige.

The power supply will be re-capped. Once that's done and the verified investigate some minor issues noted on the 100VDC and 1000VDC ranges.

I don't think that you're going to have much of a problem with contact issues on those cards as they are similar if not the same as those used on PC's. Not sure about the large cap in the power supply section but it does seem to be blown slightly to me in the photo. IIRC you will need to withdraw all the cards in order to gain access to power supply section in order to recap it anyway.
When those panels emerge from the painting process, will they be blue by any chance?   :-DD

That's what it looks like to me too; my 8840 had a similarly domed reservoir cap, and it did test a bit high on capacitance and esr, when I'd swapped it out.

For instance. A lot of other music was made and/or recorded in Memphis, like a lot of the the Bar-Kays' catalogue. Slightly bouncier.

Can somebody please get the top back on that bottle, and can the rest of you check the fire extinguishers, hoses, and make sure that someone's swept up all the sawdust and replaced it with sand?
Anybody got a syringe I can use to squeeze the magic smoke back into this?

Yes, that 15000uf capacitor does not look too healthy. I've already inventoried the replacement caps required and the order will be submitted. And from studying the mechanical parts diagrams it appears the entire PSU pulls out from the back which should make the work a lot easier.
An old gray beard with an attitude.

Probably the +15V section that went out because the fan went and then, well..

Now I am building a NAS Volume with 4 instead of the 5 intended drives and a few TB less than intended. Will probably run another day to verify the volume ...

Cold symptoms. Headache, cough. Even though I have been in pretty strong self isolation. No fever though.
rats.
Lets hope that all you have is a common cold  :phew:

most likely. it's still the scare as hubby has to have limited customer contact as one of those interdiction officers ... while I am working my butts of to keep my stuff in our pharma plant running. With the quarantine and our work from home directive my small internal translation system has seen 840 thousand accesses in just a month. that's a 15 fold increase from previous levels. It seems to be quite vital for efficient cross border communications ...

Anyway.

WD / HGST has escalated my case and they are now lookin for the missing hard drive. My NAS estimates about a day to move those mere 5TB of data from one stripe set to the other. and I need to call Canon to fix the lens that went down at Ford Island :( Poor 24-105 IS STM ...

My experiences were similar, but more costly, as I fell to the hype of it's big brother, the LM338. I got my fingers on it aged 15, wayyy before I understood thermal design. Whoa! 5A from 1.5 to 37V, and protected against everything. And in an early bout of entrepreneurship, I even sold one such unbuilt PS to my chemistry teacher. Those things cost about 30.- DM at that time. Oh my, that got ugly fast. They cooked off before I could even touch a control. Days of shame...
Then, much later, I understood what happened. I called myself a fool and thought that I am done with that topic. Until the Internet came. And with it, the incredulous tales of people which were doing exactly the same thing all over again.

That's just the way "real" engineers learned their profession. Nothing to compare with today's youth, just copying some shit from the internet (OK, I had a book), not knowing what they do (OK, we didn't either) and then complaining on the internet (Hmm, we couldn't for some reason I can't remember ;) ). So we had to understand the stuff to be successful, while today they blame the supplier ...

Y'all are fuckin' bass-tards, you know that?  >:(

I ordered up a bunch of fans to quiet down the 3DP; chose 12V ones as they were in-stock on Amazon & 1/3-1/2 the price of equivalent 24V ones via slow-boat-from China. I WAS just going to epoxy-blob a L78M12 on each fan as I've done oodles of times before... takes about 5 minutes and I have oodles. Now you got me building a BOM with one of these, JST-PH pigtails, and even considering a perfboard with jumper blocks to go inline with the controller board so I can easily switch devices in/out of circuit as the configuration evolves. :palm:

mnem
I hate you all. Cordially. >:D
