It’s possibly keymap change from the installer. There were some bugs in windows 8.1 installer in that space. Get a windows 10 iso and use that. 8.1 is dead.

If I’m doing an install I type the intended password as the user first to check keymap then delete it.

Well, yes, I added a pw when I did the install. Then when I restarted for updates, bada-bing, windoze telling me my pw is wrong.

Also, it won't let me create a password recovery disk.

Also, this doesn't explain the resolution problems.

Also, when re-installing from scratch second time around on this SSD (and every other SSD/HDD), some things are different regarding resolution etc, implying there's data retained despite deleting and formatting etc.

I'm gonna try a later disk I have, maybe that will work better   :(

Now to just wait for my TLA714 to show up tomorrow also...I apparently got bit by the boat anchor bug.
Immunity to this is possible despite it being the drug of choice for some.  :-//

Nevertheless another fine addition to the TEA Glossary of Terms, Conditions, Causes, and Effects:
BBBAB

Full credit to profanum429  :-+

Added!

BBBAB: Bit By the Boat Anchor Bug - When a sufferer of TEA realizes that they find boat anchor (i.e., large, vintage equipment) gear strongly appealing, which leads to one or more other syndromes.

At my age if someone, like the Chinese, really want dope on me I'll gladly send them a framed picture of my hairy butt hole for them to hang on the wall and enjoy.  >:D

That said, I'm not completely stupid. I do have a credit freeze in place due to the Experian fuck up and recently my Health Care provider had a data breach and they offered me free identity theft protection which I fully realize isn't 100% but better than nothing. And I always monitor my credit report as well as credit cards.

So if anyone want's a pix I'll get my camera ready.  :P :P :P

That's ok until Tencent buy Experian, your healthcare provider and already own your TV company and increase your premium because of hairy-assitis  :-DD

If you've got a USB stick floating around, use the media creation tool here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Then install it on the box. If the box has previously been activated against windows 8.1 it usually installs without even asking for the product key. Worth a punt. To give you an idea I just upgraded my mother's PC from windows 7 to windows 10 a few months back and it didn't ask for a product key and activated straight away. The PC is an 8 year old Lenovo SFF box. Same with another infernal relative a couple of weeks ago.

At this point MS want everything other than windows 10 to go away.

This was posted in the Tek Facebook group. Who is this? It HAS to be someone in here. At least with the accent narrow it down to a Brit.

Appears to be a match. He's never posted in this thread to my knowledge but it he knows everything about us. Guess we have a fan base or stalkers.....take your pick.  :-DD

You're right.....I missed that one.

That was an excellent vid. I've added it to the Glossary. :-+

I also created a TEA account on YouTube to post comments. 8) Maybe one day there will actually be videos. :-/O

Harrumphh!

At this point (sans restart or updates), it looks like the older 8.1 disk was fooked (ie this one has allowed me to make a password recovery disk, and also the start menu is way different).

The reasons I had for not wanting w10 are no longer relevant (metered wireless connection), so I'll look into it at some point, ty bd.

As for monetisation, I regularly practice dissimulation tactics re this...   :box:

I do like the way Paul C does it.  He uses insulated standoffs soldered to the existing cans terminals.  The top of the chassis looks original and you don't have to mount terminal strips.

I just wish I knew where to get the standoffs he uses.

I don't know where he gets those standoffs either...

Is anyone in here in his Patreon?  If so maybe you could ask?

Just an interesting update regarding the RIFA madness that TEA has, one of the Tek 2465B owner was lucky

-> https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tektronix-2465b-oscilloscope-teardown/msg2909048/#msg2909048

With the interesting pattern there, suspect the darker egg shaped patterns are sign of trapped water beginning to acumulate, and once the water is evenly ingressed and spreaded, as the dots are getting larger and starting to get connected to each others, then .. bang.  :scared:

I guess we should invent the new term called "Polka Dotting RIFA" as its an early sign ?  :-DD

I don't think so. The pattern is too regular, and doesn't match the visible cracks.
I suspect more likely those are an artefact of the manufacturing process; the shape of grippy pads on rollers as the layers are laminated?
Or as an outside guess, the pattern from a vent grille allowing UV in?

The password issue seems to have been fixed by using the newer installation disk; however the resolution conflicts remain   |O

some PTFE variants here

https://www.surplussales.com/Hardware/Standoffs/threaded-base.html

again, the 4-40 thread (TSL) T42 is sold out, but there is a 4-56 version, the bases look to be zinc plated steel, so not sure about soldering to them

I might drop an email to Surplus Sales and see if they plan, or are able, to restock.

tggzzz: as for the 465, I think I'll pass on that one. As mentioned I am done with Tek stuff, unless it is especially cheap or something weird or really special or rare.

In Germany, there is a company, Hescon, which is producing high quality ceramic standoffs:

https://hescon-electronics.de/category/online-katalog/lotstuetzpunkte/

Perhaps they have an office or something in the US.

Fischer electronic has some nice PTFE standoffs as well:

Unfortunately I really can't get along with linux, and some of the software I use doesn't like it either.

EDIT: The bizarre thing is, I didn't forget or mistype the pw. Further, if I restart the pc, the pw works. Also I have some resolution issues, some apps recognise the 1920x1080, some don't, which causes some odd results...

I had this issue before, and decided to use a fresh SSD and a clean install to try and get rid of it, but it's back right away. I really want to throw the whole fkking lot out the window at this point...

Right now I really don't know what to try next; this issue has followed me across motherboards, HDD/SSDs, video cards. Am I cursed? :(

It sounds to me like some app or service you're using is linked to a Microsoft account; maybe TechRepublic or somesuch...?
