Well my RS delivery arrived finally. Third day lucky. A3 cutting board and one resistor. Resistor is good. Cutting board is a piece of shit. Supposed to be self-healing but it isn't. Two cuts and it is ruined  . Phoned up and whined to RS and they just refunded it 

So:

RS Pro = piece of shit. tautech - all siglent stuff has that branding from RS. I'd call them up and tell them to stop wiping poop on your brand 
RS delivery = piece of shit.
RS service = pretty good.

What hell have I unleashed......

I secured the space for my 12U rack case.  It now occupies that space and I am still alive to tell the tale.  I have fitted the 8656 in the top spot, then started looking at the placement of other bits of kit - and there is not going to be enough room for what I would like to set out.     (My aspirations outgrew my planning ...    )

My casual reference to modification of the hob on my desk is now an official necessity and my ideas on setting out a storage solution for tools that will allow easy access has now become a critical design and construction project.


I've stepped in a puddle and sunk down to my eyeballs.  Someone toss me a snorkel.

So-o-o-o... are you Leela, the hapless victim (and soon to be frying up some tentacles for dinner) or Fry, helplessly looking on in your underwear as your pants are on the other side of puddle-monster oblivion?

Quick experiment. Introducing the "POS load". Roughly speaking, does a single Caddock 30W 50R resistor on the end of a bit of RG174 make a half decent dummy load or is it a piece of crap?

Desired outcome: pretty low VSWR up to 20m band. Anything else is a further win.

It all started when I rediscovered Arcade and Pinball machines and found Louis Rossman's channel on youtube.

I started with that UT139C and an old Weller iron. After a while I decided that visiting the Reichelt store seemed to be a good idea. This is when I started rummaging through their returns pile that they put up heavily discounted.
Louis got me hooked on Hakko and Quick 861, and soon my first Agilent DMM made it into the stockpile (an old 1252a). Soon after an Agilent LCR popped up, followed by a Fluke 114 which I found at Reichelt, followed by yet another Agilent DMM, a couple of entry level oscilloscopes, and finally some boat anchor ...



Having secured that I am still trying to integrate this into my rather small workspace



and then it happened.
I got an invitation to a Keysight event and decided to attend. In the coffee break they asked me if I had any use for additional test equipment and I told them that I just got a quote from R&S regarding the RTC1002 and the RTB2004 and was wondering which one to buy. They said that they wanted to accomodate me and pulled some strings, which resulted in my buying this:




Aw gawd, I never thought such a device would have a 500 pages plus manual ...
Now I am waiting for my diff probe (thanks Dave for supporting my habit which DHL failed to deliver.
Hrmpf. One more day of waiting before I can repair my husbands Volvo ...

Anyway. A stockpile of equipment and an even bigger stockpile of pinball machines to fix. Sigh.

I think I need a bigger flat ...

The RCA 54-45 scope failed burn-in again...for the 4th time. This time the trace went out of focus. Little or no focus control. 5 minute find and fix. See schematic. R20 (4.7M) went open. I've seen that before in CRT focus circuits. Seems those high value carbon comp resistors don't like HV placed across them. I replaced it with two 2.2M resistors in series to spread out the voltage drop.

Foto: Tripoli L2 flight of my first home built gizmo making it to 848m. The next flight went a little bit higher.

This was my hobby before starting to fix stuff. I still have the pyro license to go with that which allows me to build unlimited chute ejection systems and rocket stage separation charges ...
I have not pursued that in some time, though ...

Edit 2: as far as I got was a Mean Machine with an E engine in it. Oh and the exploding Estes Alpha which we packed with firework fuse from head to toe. Didn’t get far off the pad
