No work at the bench this week; too much real life going on.

I did get the DMR radio unbricked and programmed. Now that I have beat it into submission and used it long enough to confirm my suspicion that 2M DMR is the same wasteland as 2M repeater analog, only with more empty channels and worse audio quality, I can box it up and sell it.

I also reposted, and subsequently sold, another of the Tek signal generators, my "spare" 191. Got asking price plus shipping for it, which is nice when it happens. I think I've decided to hang on to the rest of the "scope calibration generators" for now.

Tomorrow, I am hoping to get back to figuring out what's going on with the time mark generator. There just shouldn't be so much of the RF signal on the power rails or mixed into the trigger output. Probably bad filter capacitors in several places.

At least the front panel was left alone.

That's not an invitation, either!

Soooo, yours truly may or may not have scored a bunch of gear at an auction. This time, it's mostly projects.  :palm: Pictures forthcoming when I have a chance to get stuff organized.

2x Data Precision Data 6000 digitizer mainframes with model 620 plugins (have some flakiness going on that might be the plugins or user error?)*
Another Tek P6042 to serve as a parts donor as needed
Another Tek P6015 HV probe (sans 114 flourocarbon of course)
HP 438A dual sensor power meter (powers on  but no display unless one of the test modes is triggered)
Dyna-Empire D888 Gaussmeter with carrying case and probe

* Anyone know where to get manuals for these? If I can get one working it will be a perfect companion for my Data Precision 2045, which can be made to play back waveforms digitized by the 6000.  :-+

On TEA stuff (rather than coffee) I wonder if @Brumby would like to go out on the limb a bit further and provide his better half a chainsaw  :-DD eBay auction: #193201949768

Hell in a handbasket - and you're inviting me to buy a first class ticket.   :palm:

That's not a boat anchor - it's a breakwater!

About 6 hours to go on this - and I've had numerous thoughts about it.  It is not a petite it of kit.  I simply do not have the space around my desk/workbench and I'm not about to relegate it to the garage.

Also, this statement is not inspiring: “Is in fair cosmetic condition somewhat functions but plugin is low on gain and storage now refuses to function (was ok last time tried)”.  I'm not really enthusiastic about a repair on such a beast.  For a start, I'm going to need a bigger bench.

Edit:  Aw heck.  I'll throw something at it (if I remember in time) but it won't be anything bold.

A prime example of boat anchor-voltnut-ness... nixies, high voltages, giant heatsinks, too large for your bench, and weighs more than all your DMMs put together (hell you can throw in a scope, too, prolly). What's not to love?

I won't bite (I don't think) but maybe somebody close enough to pick it up rather than pay two hundred bucks in freight shipping will...

hey mnem

enjoyed your river pics.  have not been there in 54 years.

but you accidently pushed a button of mine (a button without an "=").

tesla was a very very good engineer.  but he was no genius.

Oliver Heaviside was an actual genius, and he gets credit for.......DICK.

(people are always hatin' on redheads.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Heaviside

edit - they should make a movie about HIM.

edit 2 one of our cats is named for HIM.

I agree wrt Heaviside. In addition to being, well, a pain in the ass to everyone around him, he spent his life dealing with political hacks and fools, and his contributions to transmission line theory, field theory, and calculus were long glossed over.  It is worth reading his biography.

Also the book by Bruce Hunt: https://blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/product/The-Maxwellians-by-Bruce-J-Hunt-author/9780801482342

I got the impression that he was looked down upon somewhat because he had to work for a living, as a telegraph 'operator', as opposed to to academic contemporaries. However, as Hunt points out, the telegraph companies had the best facilities and the best state-of-the-art test gear (obligatory TEA reference) at the time.

Anyway he has a Layer named after him and he is the patron saint of Enheavyment - what more can mortal man desire?

EBay just sent me an SMS telling me this auction will end in 13 minutes (now 11).  No change in price - nor my interest in bidding.

Will see what happens in the last minute....

Edit (not worth a new post)  Sold for $182.50.  Winning bid came in the very last second.

Additionally, I just bought one of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Upgrade-Aluminum-Extruder-Drive-Feed-Frame-For-Creality-Ender-3-3D-Printer-/292865286118

Not because Aliminium is any better than the acryllic one that's there already, but mainly because the hole in the black one is almost impossible to find without turning the machine around (I can't access it from the side). So the red colour along with the tapered inlet should make things a bit easier.

McBryce.

That's interesting. Have the same problem trying to find the hole in the thing. Added to pimping list  :-DD

Some feedback for @bd139 (and other Ender 3 users). I replaced the extruder feed parts with the aluminium one. Easy 5 minute job. The new one works a treat. HOWEVER!!! The old acryllic one has already started to wear a channel from the PLA and I've only had the printer for about a month, with moderate use!! The wear is on the inner side. The newer feeders have a metal insert on the outer side which not only makes blind insertion almost impossible, but also stops the PLA from wearing through the material on that side.

So I'd advise others to keep an eye on this and the aluminium feeder is no longer a nice to have, rather something you'll need in the near future.

McBryce.

Part of the reason I developed this addon for the Ender 3 (far Right). The others are replacement filament sensor switch holders for the CR10. https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/3d-printer-yet/msg1913924/#msg1913924

I have one of the Aluminium Kits but I haven't fitted it to any of the fleet yet.

If you wanted to do something good for your 3D printer, give him a "titan extruder" from Trianglelab (Ali). Definitely the Trianglelab or the original (very expensive). All trouble is over then. Have that behind me too. Since I've installed that, I do not even remember that an extruder is installed at all.

Here is my toy, all DIY, derived from a MKC

Spending to many $ on a cheap printer doesn't make a sense for average use. The teflon guide and Capricorn Bowden on one of my Enders has been working great for a few $ spent https://www.captubes.com/ . The Cap tube tightened up the retraction needed and overall is a good upgrade.

The other one I spent way to many $$$ on a Flexion direct drive but it fills a purpose when needed.
