I think you're onto something there. Local surplus joint has a stack of thermometer/thermocouple controllers in that some case style. Assume they are largely worthless without the sensors.

That is a funky looking enclosure.  Probably looked futuristic and high tech at its introduction, but I'd say it hasn't aged well in that department.

All the nay sayers.  I think it's cool.   It's in the same case design as my 7260A Frequency Counter.

Glued and the first coat of wax applied on my new weapon. I was worried about finger slippage but even waxed the small taper seems to be fine so I didn't get to whittling.

My PITA Points:

1) the two elco caps on the top are not deformed but smaller in diameter than what they should be.
2) the big ass blue (dedicated to med) elco cap is not stripped down with a zip tie to the board
3) the relocation of the T220 is nice for thermal but I do not like the execution:
 a) no heat shrink on the T220 legs
 b) flux is like saturday night vomit out of the local bar

it's a legendary 7.5 DMM, you should work with gloves on it.
It's not a cow to milk out, you moron. I hate you.

Temped to put the T220 where the R&D decided to place it.

Oh no, it is drifting after 24h test... what I do now?

1) The physical size is irrelevant. If they have the correct capacitance and voltage then who cares? Many manufacturers will allow for supply fluctuations by leaving space for a larger diameter capacitor if they change to an alternative part.

2) It's an axial capacitor with a soldered pin at each end. Unless this board is going to be in a high vibration environment, then there's no reason why a strap would be used.

3) Fully agree, what a messy bodge.

replaced fan to ADDA which has a lower m³/h, so I want to go with this one:

For this device where the caps dies all the time I think it is the right choice.

See it as a compliment, at least that's what is my impression.
At least it creates some uniformity, just as some try with 3D printing or
audio/vidio/pc equipment.

By the way, I am impressed with the quality of your 2465's focus control.
Did you spend speccific efforts on this to improve it?

I do see it as a compliment. These clowns are just jealous. 

I haven't done anything to either of my 2465's except re-cap the PSU's and one had it's fan replaced (don't ask  ). When the 20MHz bandwidth limit is engaged the traces are pretty sharp.....but not bad either at full bandwidth.

I bet it's a shaped triangle wave and the triangle source is generating the distortion on switching between source/sink. Could even be power supply issues. Caps not low enough impedance.
