The capacitors for the 8800A PSU will arrive today. Also going to try to revive the 8800A sitting in the closet now that I can do some comparative troubleshooting.

Talking of capacitors I saw a bag of some uniquely named “Rubyoon” ones at MKARS earlier this year. Did consider blowing a whole £1 on the bag just to nuke ‘em with the 6286A  :-DD

NanoVNA dispatches. With Royal Mail tracking id. Hopefully it’s not a fake one and is drop shipped!

Do Smurfs bleed blue blood?

Does med bleed blue blood?  :-DD

I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

Well, after 45 years of working for "its better manual" you can be glad to still walk straight, see straight and think straight.
Blue blood is only a minor damage.  >:D

So, I bought a cheap Chinese NanoVNA. Fingers crossed! Worst case it’ll give me something to fix!

Which one? (url)

Says it has shielding, battery and explicit list of parts included (cables and cal kit) and previous positive feedback so precisely zero risk.

Copying the graphics and everything else from the original maker's info is ballsy... But I guess if you are cloning without attribution, why would you acknowledge the documentation source?  ::)

Technically the project appears to have no license so the license status falls into the jurisdiction of the locality it is downloaded to, which was China, which is the Wild West basically.  :-//. Also it’s not a registered trademark so you can’t protect it!

This is called “handing it over to the cloners” and I’m going to leverage that.

Edit: honestly I’ve thought about putting my W7ZOI derived power meter out there with the hope of a cloner picking it up so I can then buy it, box it and resell it for a premium as “official”  :-DD

So, bd, you made it true, you ordered a NanoVNA...    :-DD

And now on to something slightly different:   :palm:
I said I had no space for more TE some days ago and with that I am now suffering from having an offer for a HP 5373A Modulation Domain Pulse Analyzer (a HP 5372 Frequency and Time Interval Analyzer with extra functions, the predecessor of the 53310A Modulation Domain Analyzer) for $500 plus ~$200 shipping. It powers up and boots but no further testing was done..
Yes I am an addictive but is it that worse? :scared:   :-DD

The price is no bargain but on the other hand isn't too bad for such a unit but without knowing if its really working? Shipping also kills it a little.
Perhaps my Fluke PM6681 and/or my HP 53132A using GPIB and additional software could do most of what this boat anchor can do.   ???

What's your opinion/your thoughts on this?
A life without TEA is possible but pointless.

I’d run a mile. I think I’ve seen two that were buggered. In fact I think both tggzzz and myself got our 10811A OCXO’s via deceased ones.
