The 10MHz Reference project. All the mains wiring is done and tested. The transformer putting out a healthy 19VAC. The VR board still needs to be built up and installed. Getting real crowded in there. The VR will go to the right of the reference module.

More to come....

Rohde&Schwarz, the HFH  :box:

it`s a easy to handle portable ( around 90 pounds) full glowing field strenght meter, the large instruments is calibrated in dB/0,1µV.
HFH works from 100kHz up to 30MHz, it have a BFO also, and Atten.
The case for the antennas have 4 feets includet to use it as table for the instrument. It use a set of 3 Loops, and a external active vertical antenna (one tube in the socket)
A battery of 90Ah is good for a nice day in the garden

Yeah, but it’s still one of the cheapest available with a 300mm print area on any axis. I know THAT would appeal to YOU, even if it is a PITA from hell on crack to get printing right.  :-DD

[EDIT] That fact also makes the idea of gifting it to you very appealing to me.  >:D

When I cobbled together my 10MHz source based on an HP10811 OCXO, the datasheet noted that jitter can be introduced by noise on the PSU lines. The datasheet showed a regulated PSU based on a 723. Win Hill notes in TAoE (and elsewhere) that the 723 has a lower noise than many other regulators.

Since I had some 723s, using one was a no-brainer, with a capacitance multiplier ahead of it to reduce any 50Hz ripple.

It may well be that HP recommended the 723 because not much else was available at the time.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

After I get it all together and up and running I'm going to monitor voltage, ripple, and any potential oscillation.

I just refuse to fix stuff for friends now. Problem comes is when you do a hardware fix and they go and blow up their USB port instantly or crap on the software then it's clearly my fault, not their own stupid fault the second time as well. They get a little lecture on the difference between correlation and causality and told to fuck off. This is when you discover the difference between friends and people who just want to know you because you're useful.

Edit: also the usual requests:

1. Can you hack this person's facebook for me. You're a hacker aren't you?
2. I bought this piece of shit in PC World. Can you spend 5 hours of your life fixing it for free when it's not possible to make it not suck?
3. Fancy dinner at our place next week? Bring a screwdriver.

Ugh

The last request I get from my parents regularly... I'll usually take my toolbox with me then.   :-DD
It's the only exception to your rule you described above.   ;)

You’ve made comments before about 3DP being too costly a rabbit-hole. But mostly, just because it’s funny and I’m in desperate need of a laugh.  ;)

Got the correct SMD diode (SD103AWS-7 SCHOTTKY) installed for the NanoVNA to enable the battery indication. Works perfectly.
