Just burned 64€ for nothing.   :--
I searched, found and ordered a Pretec 1MByte SRAM PCMCIA Card for my HP 8110A. HP has an option number for it...
Plugged it in and ...my two working 8110A say it's corrupted.   :wtf:

Asked the seller if I could return the SRAM card if it is clearly defective.
Reply: What mode does my device work with; 8 Bit or 16 Bit?

Turns out that around 2017 the chipset in those cards that could switch between those modes got obsolete and newer cards only support one of 8 Bit or 16 Bit native mode. Should have known earlier.   :palm:

Question is: Will I be willing to potentially burn more n*60€ for probing through the different models of 1MByte SRAM cards that exist..? :palm:

I should have read this product change note before:
http://www.pretec.com/images/stories/news/PCN-SRAM-Linear-Flash-card-revised-2017-1013.pdf

If anyone has information about of what exact specification a SRAM PCMCIA Card for the HP/Agilent 8110A has to be I'd be very happy to hear/read about. :)

Ouch.  :palm:

Thanks for your condolences.  :-DD

I've a few of those cards knocking around somewhere. Let me check what capacities I have and if they are what you need I'm sure we can sort something out. And if it doesn't work you can definitely send it back.

* Power cable
* 0.2, 0.6 & 0.8 mm nozzles
* 200 x 210mm glass plate (damaged)

Locally if you are using Glass Bostik Glu stick from Safeway or wherever is my pick, Uhu not as good but does work. Not a fan of Hairspray but I have only tried a couple that didn't suck.

Need to prep the location.  Requires clearing a bit of space to make room for moving 2 filing cabinets (which are full) and adding a board to make a table top.  Off to Bunnings tomorrow.

 :wtf: Went to switch the monitor on this morning...nah...not a blooming sausage, had to break the darned thing open, usual poke around, nothing particularly obvious, look a bit closer and these 3 caps appeared to be slightly domed, seen far worse ones than these, fired up the old desoldering iron and sucked the buggers out, checked them on my LCR meter, one was O/C and the the other 2 measured 30pf and 49pf, all supposed to 1000uf 16v.

took 3 new ones from my stock, soldered them in and reassembled the monitor and bingo, I'm back on line again  :clap:

I'm printing a pineapple at the moment for some reason! Request from my 7 year old. I think she's just trying to test it  :-DD

Edit: just realised the body and top are pretty spikey so she's probably going to use it as a weapon on a stick or something  :-DD

Don't spread the word about busted elco cap, it's a secret reserved for us.
No they don't cost £2,  £2 are pure chinesium. At least £100 or more a piece, good one of course...

well... I can't lie... that's my problem.

Why I can never ask to friends more than part cost for repairs? I am too stupid or too good. You decide.

I just refuse to fix stuff for friends now. Problem comes is when you do a hardware fix and they go and blow up their USB port instantly or crap on the software then it's clearly my fault, not their own stupid fault the second time as well. They get a little lecture on the difference between correlation and causality and told to fuck off. This is when you discover the difference between friends and people who just want to know you because you're useful.

Edit: also the usual requests:

1. Can you hack this person's facebook for me. You're a hacker aren't you?
2. I bought this piece of shit in PC World. Can you spend 5 hours of your life fixing it for free when it's not possible to make it not suck?
3. Fancy dinner at our place next week? Bring a screwdriver.

Ugh

That's so strange, that is precisely what went through my mind when I saw the branding  :-DD Mind you I've not gone overboard on the replacements either, I fitted Aishi ones that I got as to make up order value recently to get free shipping, work OK though, I've used them in a number of projects to date with no issues.  :-+

Good job with the TV, always taking a punt on TV's as long as the screen is not seen to be duff, especially if the seller states that it won't turn on as that is a common fail mode and Samsung suffer especially from that issue although I've never had any problems with ours. :-+

Aishi caps are great. My favourite ones to blow up (I occasionally buy a few 1uF ones from bitsbox as the small ones don't have vents :-DD)

I only do repairs now for family, but I do charge them something even if its only a tenner for knowing what to check and then a bit extra for the replacement bits, something like today would attract around £25 to £30 cost which I would then spend on more parts to go back into stock  :-DD

I just refuse to fix stuff for friends now.

The best I got are whatsapp messages:"Internet is not working at home, can you help?", "My PC is slow..."
Previous message in that chat is 3 months old at least.

A legendary Notebook from my friend sister took 17 minutes and 43 seconds to boot up. How do I know? I rebooted the second time with a stop watch running, I could not believe it. Well no shit you have the feeling your notebook is slow.

After the 2 first minutes on the crime scene: 80% I fix the shit, 18% I declare a BER POS case, 2% I took the device crap in my Lab. 25% I got something more than a smile and/or a tap on my shoulder back.
90% I come back home sad or irritated with my screwdriver and Fluke 87V in my backpack.

St. Peter will give me EE points on that day when I will meet him.

@beanflying
Could you please give a bit more detail on this technique? Do you wait for the stuff to dry a bit?
Of any use on non-glass beds?
Thanks Rob

@mnem - I can relate partially as I am on holiday in another state of Australia (WA) - so my 'babies' / TEA-wise are about 2500km away!
Whoah! Watch where that landed we might need it later.

This is when you discover the difference between friends and people who just want to know you because you're useful.

Don't let 'em know you have a 3D printer or you will get many new "friends" all of a sudden.

Don't ask me how I know this ...  :rant:
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.
