Sigh gains of NvMe not noticeable  :palm: The gains can be measured with an old school mechanical clock and counting the ticks manually. Not to mention if like me you are starting to play with 4K video files.

My NAS is a good place for raided spinny drives for data as they are cheap and reliable and not next to me on the bench being noisy.

Slightly dated video from Steve but it was obvious even several years ago NvMe was never not noticeable.

Coffee, Food, R/C and electronics nerd in no particular order. Also CNC wannabe, 3D printer and Laser Cutter Junkie and just don't mention my TEA addiction....

I think we’re all getting a bit emotional here. NVMe does matter! You won’t notice it on an average desktop workload though. If you have several threads trying to suck up bits of disk there’s a massive difference on latency and lock contention.
Exactly.

Here’s something that can unite our hatred: https://techcrunch.com/2019/10/02/microsoft-introduces-windows-10-x-for-dual-screen-devices/

Anyway. I’m home now and wide awake so I’m going to keep it TE and design a BNC cover (yes I know they are already available as STL files). Then I’m going to design a test lead rack

@bsl:

Or, you could just go back to whatever threads you like to hang out in most of the time and whine to yourselves rather than bring it here. But of course since I called tggzzz and his buddy Scram both out for acting like an ass, you felt it necessary to come down here and put me in my place.  :palm:

We WEREN’T talking about “the average user’s build” at the time in question (bean’s build), we were talking about building a high-end workstation for 8K video rendering and more. In bd’s case, I suggested a workload-appropriate Ryzen 3600 & X470 MB. Both your arguments are irrelevant.

For those playing along at home: This isn’t the first time tggzzz and Scram have tried to dogpile me and others. I’m just not interested today.

Thanks for playing,

mnem

Where did tggzzz enter this discussion? He's not even here. Blowing up every time anyone challenges something you say is not a valid discussion tactic. We know you're not an expert at everything as none of us is. Don't take it or make it personal.

Yup. Its so very coincidental that I read him the riot act a couple days ago then you come in here needling me about a subject you just knew I couldn’t ignore.

Jeezus... what are we, 12 year olds at recess here?

Still not interested.

While all my test lead racks are undoubtedly overstuffed, you will NOT make me aquire a 3D-Ptr that way.
Nice try.

update on the back cracking hp 8569b.

oculus and cub had me pretty scared about the input attenuator.  that video may have given me tiny o ring nightmares .  then noticed that the crt display atten setting also showed the wrong steps.  did a reseat on the ribbon cables from the rotary switch to the mother board and from the board to the attenuator and bada bing.  it now works in 10 db steps. woooooohoooooo.

then when checking supply voltages noticed that rifa madness has struck again.

the other pic shows what a 5.8 to 5.9 Ghz sweep  (in 5 Mhz steps) with max hold turned on looks like.  sure the level is a little off (probably because i forgot to tweak the preselector filter knob?) and the frequency is off a good bit.   but hey......its still pretty good for only two days on the bench.

ps.  all the rotary switches and shafts were gobbed up with whatever that lube was that turns green and sticky after 35 years.  cleaned with a little IPA and some contact cleaner and very careful tiny shots of wd40 on shafts and bearings and now all the controls are smooth and easy.

am very happy with it so far (except when i have to flip it over or move it more than 2 inches)

Our lives obviously revolve around trapping you in a conversation you say you want no part of but actively participate in. You're the victim of an elaborate cooperation and scheme perpetrated to push barely relevant facts. Or maybe you just need to accept you were somewhat off the mark and people independently noted this.

Ummmm... am I horrible for admitting that one of the most attractive “potential projects” in my “daydream list” when shopping the Tornado... was a thought-design for interlocking modular panelized test lead racking?

I imagined it going around the back wall of my workspace like border tile, and me just wheeling my way up & down the wall picking the perfect lead with just a flick of the wrist, and never once having to move 3-6 others...  :-DD

If I tried that here on the porch, or even over my garage workbench, they’d be covered in gecko shit inside of a week. I actually had to pull the bench a foot away from the wall in self-defense.

But, they eat lots of baby cockroaches before they get big enough to invade the house (and they’re much cuter) so I tolerate them.

Ah yes, Rule 0 of troubleshooting HP gear: reseat EVERYTHING!!   :-+ It's amazing how many issues seem to come down to that.

AF6LJ  (sue)  deserves most of the credit for getting this old hp back on its feet.   would never have attempted the finger contact fix without her pictures and detailed step by step instructions.   my only deviation was to not use super glue as the base attachment method.  did the whole procedure with just JB weld and it seems to have done the trick.  looks like it will be a permanent fix.

forgot to take pictures.  but the end result looked just like hers.

It's more a case of Aussie Death spiders webbing them up from time to time and anything hanging or fairly much everything is subject to those from time to time.

I have a Lizard killer on loan for a few days, not popular when she does it either in particular when it is a large one. If she also didn't Yap inappropriately, try to commune with the Possums and shed balls of fur 11 months of the year there might some hope of a redeeming feature but unlikely so sleeping and occasionally being cute is the sum total of any positives.

Would you all take this flaming      war to a PM discussion? Seriously, you all are in, I dunno, like   :horse:   :horse:   :horse: :horse:  territory at this point. Yes, that is four dead horses.  It ain't fun for the rest of us. Even popcorn doesn't help, which is very very very depressing, because popcorn, at least of the buttered sort, cures everything.

Have I been emphatic enough to get your attention?    ;D
