Just got D75. 100% write off. Caps have destroyed the board. The guy did a fairly good repair attempt on it with some decent Kemet caps but didn't clean up the mess. It has wicked up the transformer wires and they are all crumbling . Absolutely no way of saving this one.
I know people who need parts for these so I'm stripping them down and doing that instead.
Gonna pursue a refund?
Nah not at all. It was listed accurately. The seller was honest about it. I took the risk so it's fair. My plan B was stripping it so I will proceed with that. It's got a lot of decent grade sheet alu in it and a ton of decent transistors - cheaper than buying them
. I know a few people who need parts for D83/D83 anyway so it's going in that direction too. Either way, I get a good enough win out of it
I cannot understand this. Using decent parts, change them on the board but do not cleaning the mess from the spilled out electrolyte?
It should be really obvious to clean this mess first before solder any new parts.
I think the damage was done a long time ago. I had a D83, many pages back in this thread, that the same thing happened to. The shitty Plessey caps leaked in it. The PCB was and transformer wires were buggered way before he tried to repair. He picked good caps and soldered them in well but damage was done so he gave up. You win some, you lose some.
Two of the wires broke off when I moved them. So I figured it was just the joints. So I cut 2mm off the end then stripped them and the wires are powder inside
. This was repeated a few times carefully until I reached the transformer - there's not even enough to lap solder some new wires on.
