Yeah... cases like that you need to take pictures BEFORE you open the box, and then every step along the way. Make a nice little timeline, then ask the seller politely to start a shipping claim for you. If they don't come back with a response, then you start a dispute, stating unresponsive seller and item not as described.

Do NOT accept any solution that involves sending the item back; then they can claim the damage was YOUR fault. Also, because you shouldn't have to pay to return something you didn't fuck up.

You can get a substantial portion of your money back if you play it calm and patient and document the damage TO DEATH.

Cheers,

mnem

neo, I'd say it's worth mentioning, depending on how much you got whacked for shipping.  If dirt cheap and no other damage I *might* bite my tongue and let it go, but if big $$ then definitely bitch!  Packing should not be that difficult, and even a first grader should know that simply taping cardboard around something with no further protection is a recipe for disaster!

Open? I peeled it off! Not joking, the only thing holding it together was the tape. Did I screw myself then, by not taking more pictures?

Well I paid a total of 100 bucks for it and weighing in at 97 pounds it is all but certain that the seller took a hit.  I might just let it go, barring any broken glass.

I've decided fuck it. I can complain about a dinged up corner if i want to be pissy but there isn't any broken glass and I don't need any more bad karma. The seller almost definitely took a hit as it is.

hey neo

good deal on the hp TIMS.  you getting one for 20 bucks makes me proud to know ya'.

there was a time when old copper twisted pair telephone bums didn't leave the building without a TIMS.

usually employed one at each end of the circuit,  they were very useful for shooting trouble on outside plant or house wire, or vf mux gear. (or you only needed one if there was a guy at the other end of the circuit who could put up a loop for you).

use mine these days as handy vf signal generators.  you just have to know what terminating impedance you are working into......and then in your head convert dBm to volts.  naaaaaaaw....you cheat and measure it with a scope.

ps  the dragon associates these units with some bad experiences in his formative years.  maybe someday he will come to appreciate them.  or are you and i just a twisted pair?

Well, my latest power trip has concluded with the arrival of these.  The second 6214A arrived last week a day or two after the other one, and the 6207B and 6294A showed up today.

I'm pleased to see that the badges are present - it seems all too frequent that these poor bench supplies wind up looking like they've been chained to the back of a dump truck and spent a day or three being dragged around a strip mine!  Still more fodder for the queue.
According to the cal sticker on the 6294A, it was done in August of 1976 - a mere 43 years ago!   :o
(That means it's only 42 years and 12 days out of date!  Sweet!!)

hey cub

bought a 6214a last spring thinking it would be a joke.

it had one dried up cap, but much to my surprise has since been used almost every other time my fat ass sits at the bench.

(opening the case was a little funky.....but it was just one of those RTFM things .........and all was well)

I fully understand. When my LAMBDAs arrived, they had brand-new scarring (the only real cosmetic injury at all after evidently 4 decades or so in service) from the screws rubbing against the sides. It looked sucky but I got such a deal, I decided not to be a dick-dwagon.  :-+

Hello,

yesterday I've vistied the HAM fest "UKW Tagung Weinheim 2019"

Here are some impressions, hope, you'll enjoy them.

Hi, at which time did you visit?

I was there on Saturday between 08:00 and 11:30 MEST.

If you have spotted somebody wearing this T-Shirt, then it was me.  :)

So we have missed. Did not see DC1MC either.
I came at 1230 and found it the worst UKW-tagung yet. More gear until this one.
HTB did not even attend. And I did not see the NGSM power supply, as I would have bought it right away.
That calibrator? When this ex-yugoslavian Grossschlawiner puts such a device out for this price - RUN!

Well, I snagged a bagful of what you call 'RF voodoo' (circulators, directional couplers etc) and a handful of exotic adaptors.

Lots of suck. Lots of aching back. Lots of time overruns. Still doing all I can until I start feeling sick from the heat, but temps have literally been hovering around 100° for almost a month solid now. NO respite.

We had a few of them at my old job - boss was a ham, and had likely gotten them at Dayton (this was in the late 90s before the Bay of Evil had been dredged and developed into the huge port it is today), and I liked them - cute, quiet and useful.  I've now 'collected the whole set' of the CV/CC versions (6212, 14, 16 & 18) and use them frequently.  The 12V ones were the last that remained, so now they can join my little stack.

ok, the next time a project requires the generation of 4-8 Ghz .........can i just borrow it from you?

maybe not.

any fedex guy who could get it to my door can probably also stomp a mudhole in my ass.  you had better not be around the next time your delivery guy goes up the street or you will be at risk for a serious whooopin.

Oh, we're not even doing THAT. We're putting everything in storage. Until the immigration process is complete, we're just tourists. PERIOD. Going across in one vehicle; cargo pod & fanny pack on the back of the car and everything. It's a PITA, but it's how we have to do things to do it RIGHT.

A few years ago, you may recall Dalibor Farney in the Czech Republic started making new Nixie tubes and clocks using said tubes. Well, a Nixie clock builder in the Ukraine, Millclock, has started making their own tubes (instead of relying solely on NOS).

I don't have any comparison since this was my first "UKW Tagung". But I must admit, I was a little bit disappointed.
I considered buying that Fluke 5100B but then I get away from that. I did not really trust its shape and I did not
trust that seller. You know him? And his reputation?
