Never was keen on Deere Johns over here.....might be something to do with this old vid: https://www.nzonscreen.com/title/dear-john-basf-commercial-1981

Oh fu-u-u-u-u... They aired that in the '80s, when *M*A*S*H* was still on the air...? No effing way in 'ell they could sell that advert over here in the Cowboy States of Amurrica.  :palm:

But seriously... the Gator is a 20-30 year piece of equipment, like everything JD was back then. And hydrostatic drive, so no snowmobile belts to wear out. :P   The only thing wrong with them is... they're shamelessly FARM EQUIPMENT. You ride them because you have to get work done, not for fun. Even though you CAN get in a fair bit of fun trouble with 6-wheel drive. ;)

Life is an RPG, with no restore function. :o
I didn't realize rocket propelled grenades came with a restore function. Maybe the Red Cross would be interested to know how to invoke it.

This would have made a nice background to a lot of Sci-Fi operas back in the 70s, then.  :)

In my war with this 485 I have just selected the nuclear option. Now there is the possibility of M.A.D. but I'm striking hard and first so I have a good chance of coming out on top.  :box: Offer out on Ebay for a non-working 485. No more screwing around.  :-DD

Parts orders in for the Heath VTVM and other items so I can complete the electrical restoration. In the meantime I guess I should pull up the 465B that needs the PSU caps replaced. I fear getting the old caps out is going to turn into a freaking fire drill.  :palm:

Edit: That was quick. Offer accepted. Should have 485 parts mule next week. It's from a source I've purchased before and their packaging is second to none. Bring on the nukes!  >:D

Absolute classic and so true. I admittedly have a certain degree of road rage. The lady sez she doesn't know me when I'm behind the wheel. I do become "Mr Wheeler"  :-DD

Wow, page 1500 is quite illustrative of the diversity of this thread. A tangle of test, tech, and totally tangential (sometimes temporarily taunting or tantalizing) topics.

Unlike Tek which commonly used 20V rated caps in 15V circuits.

Or 15V caps on a 13V rail, as people with 485s will discover.

It's normal for caps to be rated at 16v in the automotive industry (the wvdc is 14.4v in most cars for those that don't know), a mere 1.6v safety margin...

Too big, too heavy and too slow.
We needed a nimble pack horse not a truck and it wasn't suitable for our hilly clay country that gets a little boggy in winter.
From the top of my hill, my house partially hidden behind tree middle left. 100m vertical difference between house and where pic was taken.

Yep, that's all mine in the foreground and if it didn't blow like nuthing on earth up there that's where I'd build a house.....but you'd need to sling wire ropes over it to hold it down.  :scared:

How does this boat anchor, "Network Protector Test Kit," work? Had it in my watchlist just to see if someone would buy it (not neo ;D).
