I love the Fluke DMMs... but the first time I sat down and used one of the high end HPs on my bench I can surely see why people acquire them.  The nice thing about today is that one can afford to have some of both!

GPSUPSDO (TM)

Made the Ender do a double Limbo, drilled and tapped the unused Aluminium mounting points in the Case. Added a few 5mm Knurl Nuts and enter the portable GPSDO with 8-10 hours of battery life or less if the Counter gets used as a portable. Will keep it alive in the event of most power outages or needing to move it around to a job.

Plan is to mount it a reasonable distance from the Voltage Cal gear in the shack to avoid as much stray noise as possible. Still a WIP

Yes, provided we all agree that vi is little better than edlin, whereas emacs is useful :)

Now someone's really trying to start a war!

vi is a wonderful object oriented editor, I can't live with anything else.

Really? Shurely shome mishtake.

(Actually that war has been simmering for a considerable fraction of a century :) )

For past day or so this lowly technician has been laughing his ass off watching you train drivers (engineers) argue over who's methodology is better. Vi? Edlin? Emacs? What the fuck is all that shit?  :-DD

And THEN....who's calculator is better? Holy crap. If my calculator did 2 + 2 correctly I was happy.  :P >:D

So, to lighten things up a bit I present to you uncivilized humor.....

... but choose a useful test: many calculators reckon 1+2*3=9.

And that's wrong, pure and simple: the correct answer is 7 (remember BEDMAS?).

If you are using non-standard laws of arithmetic or a strange computer language like APL, then all bets are off of course.

I second your thoughts, it a bit like the Deisel v Petrol debate, both will get you to your destination just as fast without having to take a lengthy break to recharge as in the case of a electric vehicle [emoji6][emoji6]

But sometimes, when given the same instructions (1+2*3=), different calculators get you to different destinations (7 or 9).

RPN fight!

Task one ... solve tggzzz's example:

RPN: <2> <ENTER> <3> <*> <+> (5 keystrokes)
modern casio: <1> <+> <2> <*> <3> <=> (6 keystrokes) Note: older pre VPAM ones will get this wrong.

Task two ... solve this for 4 different values: x^2+3

RPN:
<prgrm> <lbl> <c> <2> <pow> <3> <+> <rtn>
<1> <xeq> <c>
<2> <xeq> <c>
<3> <xeq> <c>
<4> <xeq> <c>

Alg:
Fuck off

Casio:
menu this menu that, fuck around, input, read manual, fire up excel and do it there.

You dropped a <1> in your RPN example, so they're both 6 keystrokes :)

Love the "Night Club" lighting on yer Ender... looks surreal.  :-+

Izzat yer Knobbity™ on the upper left by the display? Looking good as well!  :-+ :-+

Scored an unused "heavy duty" rack mounting kit for 8566/8568 spectrum analyzer systems, which arrived today. Rather than the normal slides, it includes a pair of massive slides and full length rack handles that replace the normal rack handles. Eventually I do want to rackmount my most used HP gear, so this is a nice score.

Got my best Fluke Calibrator to date this afternoon. Super stoked. I think the 5100B is amazing and once I get the matching 5220A amplifier, it will be perfect. Pics and detials to come after I get it wiped down and warmed up so its ready for accurate read outs.

UPDATE: here are the pics of the unit after a quick wipe down. It was actually VERY clean and required little more than a basic sanitary cleaning.

Yep wanted to use the damn thing tonight as well on an actual project.

Current status:

1. Tektronix 475A - timebase problems. Waiting for repair slot.
2. Tektronix 465 - vertical amp problems. Waiting for repair slot.
3. Tektronix TDS210 - power supply problems. Grr.
4. Tektronix 2235 - HT problems. Waiting for repair slot.

Venn diagram:

Thus I need something not Tek, not old and not Kaputt.  :o
