Well, no... it's exactly THAT performance I was looking for. The flight sims I run load a LOT of dynamic high-polygon-count content very fast, especially when you reverse direction and come back up the track; that is one of the places I'm having issues with my old setup. And I have a Inland 120GB SSD I bought a few months ago just because SSD:$20 why the eff not?

And when I prove to myself y'all are right, then I'll have already nuked the 250GB 850 EVO, and it'll be ready for a normal install.  Win10-Win!!!:-DD

I would just like to say two works here: fuck this.

that is an abomination.

I second that, a horrific abomination.

That thing would give Freddy Krueger nightmares.   :--

Mmm I have some 'spare' Nixies if I breakdown one of my counters, a few valve radios whose bakalite cases I could butcher to poke them through and I already own a bigger plasma ball. Got to be worth a thousand easy could even add some lasers for good measure :-DD

Started tearing into the bum 8568B RF unit. Powers up fine, but you quickly note that the attenuator is bad. 40-70 dB settings work, but anything below that, no signal. Here's to hoping some idiot didn't transmit into the frontend.  :-BROKE

At least it's not being sold as ghost hunting equipment  :palm:

I remember about 15-20 years ago... when my wife and I first got together. We're going to 'Nawlins for Halloween...  *Cur flashiebackie music*

I'd found this crazy 4S3P battery pack made of 18650 cells. So I drop the charged pack in the bottom of a 4 foot long piece of plastic conduit with a plug on the bottom, put a tee on the top & spray the whole thing flesh pink. When it dries, I stuff the guts of 2 of those 4" plasma balls down the tube with extended HV wires, silicone the HV wires in place, then silicone the balls to the tee. Friction fit it together to hide the switch, and voila.

We go out late in the afternoon, when it's dark enough yo can actually see the things lit up, and I put on the cape and scalesuit from my dragon magician costume (because of course, I have one) and walk up & down Canal Street & Bourbon Street "blessing" people and their evening's adventures with my "Orgasmatron". The spiel started out as a joke when someone asked what it was... then as we walked (and I imbibed) it sortof took on a life of its own and evolved into something like this:

"You sir! You look like you're having a nice evening out with your lady. How would you like to energize your Sacral shakra, supercharge your libido, and align your Chi with the Universe, guaranteeing you the stamina and energy to make the bedroom an adventure zone? No, no, no... not a cent. Just my way of passing my good fortune on to my friends here in the Big Easy..."

"So, each of you just put your hands on my balls... no, one each will do fine, unless you really want to feel the power, *nudge-nudge, wink-wink* ;) Oh, heavens no, it won't hurt you; just a faint tingle so you know it's working. Here.... see? Harmless..." *Rubs the globes to demonstrate*

"So, where were we? Oh right... just firmly grip my balls, feel the energy of the Orgasmatron flowing through you and between you, and repeat after me:

" I HAVE THE WILL! I HAVE THE POWAH! I AM THE KING (OR QUEEN) OF FUCK MOUNTAIN!! I WILL HAVE THE NIGHT OF MY LIFE OR SET FIRE TO THE SHEETS TRYING!!! "  :-DD

Very good... now seal the pact with one truly passionate kiss... hold nothing back... and let the spirit of Eros take you where it will. Blessings, my children! Blessings upon you and your evening!"

I lost count after a several dozen happy customers... but it went on for hours and hours until I was hoarse.

Some people just played along with the joke for fun... some took it absolutely seriously...  but I found that as long I didn't break character, it didn't matter.

BEST. HALLOWEEN. EVER.  >:D

Okay... there was that one guy who was walking his sister home from work; that didn't play out so well. But at least they laughed about it.  :o

it must not be compatible to all common tube radios.
really fascinating is a inductive mechanical tuning, but at first something to study: What is the good vs. bad of self oscillating mixer stages? Why they never used a seperated oscillator and mixer system??
There will be some breadboarding required to find a nice solution  :)

1. system = triode (HF preamplification, selective, tuned)
2. system = mixer to 10.7 MHz  (self oscillating or..
2a: oscillator
3+4: EF184 or like that, penthode IF i need a high signal level
5: FM demodulator stage, 6BN6
6: any audio, EL84 can do the job

catalog parts make me tired, means I use homebrew filters, solding stripes, coils, all selfmade.

Using sweeper, Spec, Oszi, DMM, heathkit tubes PSU, Tek130 for unknown L or C, nixie frequency counter  8) and a lot of junk and sheet metal.

I meant to post that clip here one day. Russian LEDs are the best LEDs. Very high voltage tolerant. Not very efficient though.
