Got some Christmas TEA delivered last week  :)

With everybody talking about universal counter, I realized my 5350b was lacking a bit of precision in the lower freq bands.

So I got myself a nice HP 5335a (with high stability opt). Was sold as "For parts or not working" but it's fully functional. Actually, it's only 0.2Hz off my local 10Mhz std.

Very nice! I have both a 5335a and a 5350b as well. Great combo that should cover the frequencies I care about. Besides the OCXO, my 5335a also has the DC digital voltmeter option, which sits where the blank on the right side of the panel is on yours, as well as the optional C input, 150-1300 MHz.

Yes I know, your part of the reason why I had to buy a new frequency counter!  :)

The 5335a is nice but the fan is really noisy. I need to find a better option.

Happy New Year TEA. Having a wild night in Woo Hoo I am so old....  11pm and I am off to bed :palm:

Lol, I went to bed at 10pm, staying up to midnight is undesirable when you have young 2 kids who get up at 5:30am - just a recipe for exhaustion.

With the fan depending on the internals it is trying to cool adding a 40C thermal switch will simply keep it off until needed? I have fitted one up to a heatsink on one of my on bench power supplies which works a treat to keep the noise down.

Same here.  :)

The wife always complain that I'm going to bed too early on new year's eve, but I'm the one getting up in the morning to take care of the kids.

Good idea. I could even try to put something together with a small MCU to get multiple fan speeds.

They usually wake both of us up so we are both as grumpy as each other.  |O

Children don't get to decide the schedule, though they will if you let them.

Our kids are early risers, not much we can do about it. They dont come into our room, but we can hear them playing and is usually enough to wake us up.

We've got sheep clocks for both but as they are getting older, they are starting to ignore them and require constant reminders to stay in bed till their sheep wakes up.

Happy new year all. Went to bed at 10pm here, woke up at 9:18am. Slept through a massive fight on the street right outside our bedroom window which consisted of shouting for an hour, one apparent stabbing, three police cars, two ambulances and fireworks galore  :-DD

I know one amateur (an ex-professional) with two shed walls like that. He doesn't need lighting; he has sufficient distributed red lighting :)

Since he is no longer young, he is gradually selling things off on fleabay, so his kids don't junk the lot. No, I'm not going to comment on his moniker :) but it is fairly well known and respected :(

For those using the Gregorian calendar, happy new year.

I don't blame him a bit, as long as he doesn't make the mistake that this seller is making https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QUALITY-Fluke-8842A-Digital-Bench-Multimeter-5-5-Digit-DMM-Digital-MultiMeter/283322443175? This has been offer for months now and no wonder when it is at least £400 over the going rate. This to me just sort of sums up eBay at the moment with people asking ridiculous prices for their gear, I mean I could get 5 Brymen BM867's new and delivered for that amount and have far more functionality from just 1 of them apart from the 4 wire resistance ranges  :palm: :palm: :palm: :palm: :palm:

Yeh, Happy New Year to you all. That really was a bit too close to home for comfort, if you had been awake you might have poked your nose into the fight to stop it and  that poor person might have been you  :palm:

All I can say is that either you can sleep through anything or you must have consumed a bit to drink and was sleeping it off  :-DD :-DD

Edit. As for me, I was well behaved, did see the New Year in and not a drop of alcohol passed my lips and I was safely tucked up in bed by 3.15am  :-+

Indeed.

The vendor I am thinking of is very clued up and appropriately generous.

I picked up a 465 CRT from him for £5, with another that he wasn't sure of for another £5, and he offered me a 485 for £50 because it didn't startup well. One CRT worked well, I learned a lot sorting out the 485 (one test every 12 hours!) and it is now my preferred scope.

My New Years was also a non event. Even though I'm a "night person" due to my work schedule I was off so I did what normal people do at night. Sleep.  :=\  Woke up around 0200 hours, fiddled around a bit, and went back to bed. Just woke up a little while ago at 0600 hours. I have to go into work tonight. No alcohol, no fan fare, no nothing. 2019 looks the same as 2018.  :-// :-DD

Happy New Year to all!!

Sadly, I slept right through it and missed it.  Due to many old injuries,  I have a lot of chronic pain.  I only drink once a year, on New years eve, so I can have one night of numbness. Well, I  started too early this time.  Ended up totally wonked by 9 pm and ended up in bed.    Oh, well.

At least the family says I'm a happy drunk.   ;D

I normally stay away from booze and Narcotics for the pain as that is a road to hell that I don't want to walk down.  So, just one day a year for me.
At least I'm still older than my test equipment
