Hour 49 of 2-day print...
I'll post pics when its all done and assembled... I know, I'm a total bastard.
I'm surprised a 3d printer has remained operational for that long Perhaps there is an opportunity for a redesign that makes manufacturing less, um, full of suspense.
Why don't you split this subject off into a different thread, so that it isn't lost for posterity when this thread hits the 50,000 messages?
This is what I've been trying to tell you guys... FDM had crossed over the singularity threshold; it is a mature technology in refinement stage, not a hobbyist technology where every build is trailblazing in your garage workshop. The suspense is a matter of the time required for a high-quality print. I could have cut the time in half by doing it at a lower resolution; but I wanted the fine layer height. Even commercial printers costing tens of thousands have similar limitations; it's a matter of the NATURE of the technology, not the level of refinement. You know the old adage... "Time, Quality, Cost. Pick any two." Actually, I didn't think it was that interesting a subject for most; more water cooler talk about what I've been doing while I wait for test equipment to arrive.
I suppose I can pull together a few posts into another thread in case somebody would be interested in following my little odyssey.
I bought a Seaward RCD tester RC750 with case on *bay yesterday (£20).
Was sitting there -no one wanted it and the seller had re-listed it several times over the last months.
Yesterday I bid the minimum price, was the only bidder and won (~£32 including shipping). Paid instantly.
This very morning I find the transaction cancelled by the seller saying it's no longer available because it was water damaged in the meantime.
I can't really believe that this is actually true because the seller didn't proof this e.g. with photos nor give me a chance to react to this information -perhaps (he couldn't know) I would be still interested in the device? -In fact I am -because there's not much to get damaged -no ferreous parts in it that could rust away. I would try to repair it. I'll try to get an answer from him before I try to give him negative feedback.
Your instinct is probably right; a case of seller's remorse. But as I've said before, unless a seller makes a habit of it, it's not going to affect his business. Not a lot you can
reasonably do; it isn't reasonable to post negative feedback because you
suspect the reason for cancellation is a lie.
Letting your hoarding instinct go to war against someone else's is like trying to fuck an alligator; a whole lot of thrashing about, and ultimately, no good can come of it.
They know what to do with them. Hell one of them proudly stated they use Keysight bench meters in the office. But you know there’s this magic cheap thing where if it’s coming out of their own pocket then they want a golden egg laying unicorn for £20.
Really I told them to go and buy an 87V but that resulted in pfft and sighing.
Same dudes will drive 20 miles to save 1p/litre on petrol. I digress but this is typical amateur radio community here. Devoid of any intelligence and consistency.
I suggest you direct them to shop TEDepot and then Express_Auctions. Then maybe they'll get a CLUE what a real meter costs, even used and as-is. The VC97/99 is crazy good value, as long as you can live with the buggy firmware. Those fuckwits probably wouldn't even know the bugs when they see them.
Personal Question:
Does somebody that has actually built some circuits and projects can still be a TEA (see my profile) ?
Need I be concerned ? Is it contageous ?
See
the 12 umpteen steps... it's all part of the plan; just another brick in the wall. Welcome home.
He might have had it advertised elsewhere as well and before he could remove it someone offered more money so mugged you off. Annoying isn't it but it happens.
I am very annoyed by this, indeed -it would also violate *bay selling rules btw.
1. Answer from seller:
He was following *bay advice on how to proceed with such an unfortunate situation. I please should contact *bay if I'd wish to proceed further..
No reaction to my question for photos or any proof of the damage. No reaction to my interest in the tester even if damaged -perhaps for a partial refund.
I repeat; very annoying.
Yes it is. But it's all part of dealing with PEOPLE. People aren't machines that always do what they're SUPPOSED to do;
sometimes people do irrational things, like let their hoarding instinct take over and decide to keep something they should just let go. Remember...
"ultimately, no good can come of it. "Damnation. About to list some crap on eBay and someone just listed the same item but cheap
Time to stockpile, dude.
AVO 8 Mk5.
Made me laugh.
A little AVO pr0n for those unfamiliar:
https://youtu.be/GVhWtUDUvBIThanks for making me do a Guugle; I didn't even know they were still being made as recently as the Mk5. I always associated them as being another from the Simpson 260 era.
