Quick one for our US friends. 34401A’s at $280:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F303494509729

I would buy one at that price in an instant but I’ll be mugged for £66 import which annoys me.

Man, that is sooooo tempting, especially since I am currently suffering greatly from NPOPS1 but I wasn't able to go to Rickreall and sell any of the gear I need to sell, which means there are nine cartons in the storage room that need to go before anything new takes its place.

Regarding the Metrix and Yokogawa scopes a page or two ago:  Do you remember the Pixar short film "Lifted" and the spacecraft control panel?

Thanks for that. I can't tell you how much I needed I good laugh this afternoon!    :-+

Tempting, but no...  My caps arrived today, so perhaps later I'll do the filter on the 3450A and be happy with 5-1/2.

Mind over matter, I have three 6.5 digit meters as long as they agree with my 5.5 digit meters +/- 2 digits, I'm happy. Think of the extra resolution as a faster means of trend spotting and you'll be OK. Hell if I can get a 7.5 or a 8.5 digit meter I would grab if I could afford, but I would keep my philosophy the same.

Yes.  And they are rather unicorn-like, aren't they?  I found it out in CA at Apex.  Looks like it went out of service in the early nineties - has a sticker on the front panel marked 1990.  After a long search on evilBay I got a 'B' model a few years ago, too, but that one seems to be hopelessly hosed up.  I'm hoping that with some comparative measurements and/or card swapping for troubleshooting that I might eventually get that one figured out, too.  Simple is something that they certainly are NOT.

I kind of guessed that was going to be a good talk when I read her listing.

Can't wait to hear more.
I'm new here, but I tend to be pretty gregarious, so if I'm out of my lane please call me out.

That's not bad considering how much those models have been selling for lately and domestic shipping is free. I wonder how hard it is to remove the steel security loop on the side of them. It looks like it's on with adhesive rather than bolts or rivets (no holes in the case).

No, no, no.....NO!  :-DD :-DD :-DD

I am NOT gonna fall into the 6.5 digit rabbit hole. :scared:

As the current owner of eight 6.5-digit bench DMMs, there's really nothing to worry about. :-DD

(Of course they're not all operational. You think I'm made of money or something? ::) ;D)

I rarely if ever see much of anything about Tek spec ans.  I suspect HP pretty much owned that market, at least in the US.  Seems Tek was scopes, and HP was pretty much everything else other than meters, where Fluke and Keithley were also part of the pack.
