Yeah, if it is fleabay then it will be that one as there was only one that finished today  :) If I remember it right, Dave likes that one as well because it has a x10 vertical mag so it can display 500uV per division, none of this 5 x rubbish.

I thought you recapped the 465 or was that only the tants?

Talking caps, where the hell can you get some 40uF 250V axial electrolytics at reasonable prices, I need 2 and RS don't have them in stock until end of Nov and at £4.18 each?
Who let Murphy in?

Good save from the skip that. Gould scopes are rather nice.

Not nearly as nice as that Tek of yours though!

But I did acquire one important piece of equipment today, a new copper widlarizer. Thinking about actually making a brass plate for it  8)

I only did the tants on both. Looks like one of the electrolytics has dried up after a bit. Grr!

I'd go for 47uF. Vishay 042 ASH. http://cpc.farnell.com/vishay/mal204213479e3/cap-alu-elec-47uf-250v-axial/dp/CA08479

Yes, needed something that'd allow me to hit machine parts without breaking them. Going to polish up the head this weekend, I like hammers to be shiny and flat! Should have a sheet of brass arriving soon actually, I can snip a part of somewhere to make a side plate for it. Just not sure what I'll have it say just yet. Just "Widlarizer" seems a bit under-rated.

Well, my TEA continues unabated.  I now have two 'new' meters coming from the 'bay - a Farichild 7000A and a Fluke 8120A.  Damned evil nixies!!

If it jams, force it.  If it breaks, you needed a new one anyway...

Good call, thanks, strange but I never think about mouser, maybe this will change now as I also need some 1,000uF 10V and they got them as well, thanks  :phew:

I paid less than that for my DG1022Z new :)

I'd blow £150 max on that myself.

I had a Marconi 2019A for a bit in the RF space but unfortunately it committed suicide. Was also huge!

Nope, plug will a bastard to find I expect and the screws missing sounds ominous to me, could be a can of worms and besides I have 1 nixie meter, I like auto rangers.

I was looking at a Marconi 2019A a few weeks ago, your right, they are huge, 19" rack mount like my fluke 8505A and when you compare that with your GW meter, its far too big really, I may have to let it go myself soon, way too big for the bench, but nice.

Yeah rack mount stuff is huge and needs dedicated cabinets really. Anything over-size is trouble these days. It's one reason I am getting rid of the TTi supply; I don't have the space for it. If I keep everything in relatively small form factor i.e. the compact half width units you get from HP/Rigol/GW etc then I can stack things efficiently.

The 2019A is a glorious bit of kit. Unfortunately the power supply died and dumped unregulated voltage into the 5 rail which took out just about every digital IC in the unit! Gave it to someone with a working one for parts.

This was one motivation to buy the DG1022Z i.e. it works very nicely as an RF generator in the 40/20m bands (14/7MHz) and has calibrated dBm power output into 50 ohms so you can attach some attenuators etc and do typical receiver measurements.

Mhhh, that's a proper widlarizing tool, I'm a bit old fashioned though!

Was thinking of making a brass plate in this style for it: http://www.halslamppost.com/Miscellaneous%20Mining%20Items/Hendy%20Matteson%20Car%20Brass%20Tag.JPG

I gave up on saving the space with the R&S gear, that CMU200 and SMH take up waaaaay too much space, also need to find a spot for the Wayne Kerr impedance analyser while I'm at it! The good thing about the full width rackmount gear is that it's usually so solid you can stack pretty high on top of it.

PAT NOV-30-1937 FEB-27-1991 WEIGHT 1.5 KG

The weight needs to be in imperial, preferably in obscure obsolete or semi-obsolete units like grains (1/7000 lb = 64.79891mg so 23,148 gn) or drachm (1/256 lb = 1.7718451953125 g so 846 dr)  or a number in oz and fractions (52 29/32 oz ); the later has the most authentic feel in my opinion.

I have a HP 608C which i got for free a couple years back with the electrical meters on the front all not properly working, now it doesn't even output a signal anymore.
I'm thinking that replacing all of the caps, of which there are many, might just cure it of all that ails it, what do you all think?

Rather than simply shotgunning caps, I'd suggest downloading the manual from KO4BB's site and following the troubleshooting section.

http://www.ko4bb.com/manuals/69.121.228.201/HP_608C_Operating_and_Service_Manual_Service_Manual.pdf

http://www.ko4bb.com/manuals/69.121.228.201/HP_608C_Service_Note.pdf

The above are the links I just copied after downloading; if they don't get you there, then go to KO4BB's manual site and search for the 608 in the HP section.

-Pat

Thanks for those links i was looking for a manual. As far as reasons to consider replacement caps they are all old, some of them are black beauties and 2 of the big electrolytic caps look to be from the 50s.
I don't have a capacitor tester, neither do i have a tube tester, so all i know to do is replace the old caps, though if you don't think that would be best course i will open a repair thread as opposed to hijacking tea any further.

Quite nice... need to add a few descriptives though. I think "Ultra Low ESR" "Litz-Effect Resistant" and possibly "Faraday-Approved" as it is solid copper; and everybody knows that the best Widlarizers, Attitude Adjusters and Clue-Bricks/ClueBats are always both self-sizing and thumb-detecting. ;)

Talking about fleabay: https://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/302526380461

I always wanted a Keithley SMU but the prices are always high as heck.

Instead i have my eyes on a different SMU, and you guys are not hearing about it until the bidding ends. >:D

EDIT: I think i even have the correct triax cables for it.

You know Hameg made half decent SMUs at one point? They labeled them as lab supplies but had a built in 3.5 digit meter and could source and sink.

Yep oz in fraction sounds like the way to go for the time period. Unless we are going for German made then it would be 1500 g because the germans want to you know its exactly 1.5kg

Maybe you also want to give it a bandwidth of 100 MCy (Mega Cycles).

Three cases of SAD on the go today. I'm watching a power supply creeping around Italy way too slowly for my liking, waiting for Parcelforce and something hasn't shipped yet. Also something exploded at work so I need to actually do some work today rather than "research and development". Too stressful  :scared:
