I've done them once only. I've been lucky. Tips:
1. Actually take the timebase board out. It's 10x more difficult if you don't.
2. Buy capacitor adapters (!). Don't try and jump the things or end up with weird towers of capacitors held together with tape. Remember the can is actually part of the circuit. Something like these are good:

3. You have to hit them hard with a soldering iron. I had trouble doing it with a 50W Weller TCP. Had to work on them slowly and let the board cool regularly. Used nearly half a roll of wick getting them off. The pads lift if you fart near them so be careful.
4. Don't put one in the wrong way round (yes I did that
... fortunately it just hissed like an angry snake)
5. Only buy decent capacitors. I usually go for Panasonic or Rubycon 105oC jobbies next capacitance up and next voltage rating up.
