Mine went into a continual reboot everytime I went to shut it down, it rebooted. Had to do a hard shut down in the end so I could go to bed. Got up in the morning, everything was fine?

My start menu breaks at least once a day.

The hibernate vs sleep issue is well known in win 10. It is tuned for laptop use by default where the lid closing triggers the PM event. Desktops don’t have lids.

Solution:

Windows key + X, shutdown submenu, sleep.

Correct. But this issue WAS on my Laptop. When it's plugged in I want it to go to "Sleep". On battery "Hibernate". After the update the only option I had was for Hibernate for both.

But you are only a mortal user. How dare you question MSFT on their design decisions. Bow before Satya. Take your the telemetry probe in the orifice of your choice. Servitude will be in the form of updates where cheese is moved.

Edit: more seriously I’ve worked out all the applications I use now are on Linux. May end up rebuilding this with CentOS in a week or two.

That's the problem with publicly traded companies. On paper Satya is doing well, but in reality it's going to take decades to undo the damage he's done. Assuming repair is ever possible.

It's the same thing. It's the official term versus slang.

It's honestly a fair question. You'd be surprised what you can "fix" with a simple reboot.

He’s arguably worse than Ballmer. Strategy: throw shit on everything and see what sticks.

On a positive note, Metro/UWP didn’t stick so they’re cancelling UWP office apps  :-DD . Also lots of ex MSFT staff shitposting on 4chan about windows internals now and half of windows 10 is falling to bits. There is talk about dumping UWP and moving back to win32 (version two) and hardware accelerated GDI+ which is all we wanted to start with!

I can’t say I haven’t been shredding UWP across multiple sites whenever I get an opportunity.

Also LOL at Linux being available from the windows store now. Yes Linus was right.

He's worse than Ballmer. It's swerving versus intentionally crashing into a service station. "Everything cloud" is a disease.

Yes exactly that. Cloud is a temporary thing. A lot of large orgs are moving stuff back in house now. AWS/Azure worked out more expensive (I know someone with a £100k/month AWS bill for infrastructure that cost them £1m every 3 years before and there hasn’t been a reduction in staffing)

And that just bought Bezos a giant space dick.

Funny. I hear that same thing over and over yet "the cloud" keeps being pushed. It's almost as if IT companies live off of pushing changes instead of improvements.

Do you want to buy a bridge? It's actually someone else's bridge, but at twice the cost and half the control over it we'll pretend it's yours!

Problem is, as with any industry, fads are a thing. If you’re not changing something, then you’re not successful or may be overtaken by competitors or are not growing. A sickness derived from capitalism and socialism equally. Fear of not doing something driven by a selection of available fads.

Sometimes shit is done and needs to just be left alone. That scares people. What are we going to do when it’s finished? People never know because they spend all the time changing everything.

This is why I build products and sell them because I don’t want to be part of the curve where it is ruined for the sake of change.

I found the problem with the Fluke 8600A and it's quite interesting and unexpected.

Symptoms: when I first turn it on it is very inaccurate on the 20VDC range but slowly over the course of a half hour or so is right on the mark. For example....applied +9.997V will read as low as +9.945V then slowly increase until correct. And once correct remains. After power off it may take several hours before it starts reading inaccurately again. So it's something affected by temperature.

Finally traced it back to the DC input divider board. Specifically relay K2 (2nd one down on right). It has temperature sensitive contact resistance. Freeze spray it and the measured voltage goes down. Hit it with heat and it goes right back up. Didn't think that would be possible with a relay but results don't lie.

I know one of you in here has experienced bad reed relays in these Flukes before but I forget who it was. I would certainly like to know what a good recommended replacement would be.

That was probably me. I used a 5v reed relay and bodged it in. Those relays are unobtainium.

Yea, I figured direct replacements would be unobtainium. I'll search Mouser or Digi-Key for a similar reed relay.

Guards! Bring Cerebus two of the ground to air catapults and some flaming custard pies.

No, don't waste the brandy on them! Use lamp oil or some grease from the kitchen drains.

Custard pies? Surely Sir Cerebus needs swords that have recently been on the sharpening stone in order to slay the Dwagon or is the flaming custard pies the latest technology? [emoji41]

Cerebus just wanted to show his appreciation of the dragon's humour and thought they would form a nice traditional complement to the flying soggy boot. The flaming? Think of them as tracer rounds, it's not like a bit of fire is going to bother the dragon.

Mine did at infant and junior school. Perhaps the problem is that the Win 10 writers are still running around in short trousers.

You knew the joke was terrible before you opened your mouth; Cerebus knew that you'd probably like the pies, if you could catch them. Consider us even, for now.

Have they abandoned "Hybrid sleep" yet or is it still lurking in the bowels of "Advanced Options"?  :palm:

And "Sleep" when you push the "Power" button by default is quite possibly the stupidest way to deliberately annoy your customers ever devised...
