I'm old too. Between being an active employee with IBM and then a retiree/contract employee I have nearly 46 years with them. I'm done in January. At that point I won't give a rat's ass.  :-// So no, I won't take you up on your bet because in 5 years I'll be totally clueless.   :-DD

Only fair. I have a beer on you now. Cheers ! What crazy stuff are you going to do next after you retire ?

Become even more grouchy than I am already and fill this f..king place with TEA.  :-DD :P :P

Almighty, thats a honourable endevour !! Toast !!  :-DD

Sorry for forgetting the quotes. I promise to improve on that.

Thanks, you were getting a bit hard to follow at times.

If you want people to know what you're referring back to you're going to have to add at least a tiny quote to help them. This is not a solipsistic universe, we do not all know what message you were thinking about when you wrote this and if it's more than an hour or two back in our own personal reading history we probably won't figure it out without active searching, and most people won't bother to do that. If one makes readers work to understand one, generally they won't and one won't get read.

You got away with it this time, just, but I noticed a few pages back that you were replying to things that were themselves sufficiently far back that I didn't have a clue what you were replying to. General rule: if the message you're replying to isn't the one immediately above yours, put just enough quote on to provide context.
FWIW, it was clear to me that it was a remark about HP not divulging Z sales numbers. That being said, quoting people is proper etiquette. You can hardly quote too often.

I'm old too.

Having written programs in RPGII not only shows that I'm old, it also feels old!

Personal belief: Linux on POWER will eat everyone’s arseholes in the enterprise side of things in the next decade.

Maybe They've had a few wrong turns with POWER over the years. The RS/6000 was just the right machine at just the right time but they stuffed that up by having a weird homebrewed unix-alike as the OS. I can attest to that personally as I had hell porting our product to it that I had just ported from PC/DOS to SunOS, Apollo Domain, and the completely different Convergent NGEN machines with not too much pain. That, unfairly, set the POWER machines back. There were a hell of a lot of PowerPC chips sold, both desktop and embedded but with the same architecture under the POWER banner they didn't do nearly so well, in part because they went down the too superscalar, too long a pipeline route that everybody else did at the same time. The result was falling behind in price/performance in a way that made them unattractive unless you were already an IBM customer. I don't know of they have recovered/will recover from that.

I am prepared to bet for a box (20 bottles) of premium Bavarian beer (Augustiner Edelstoff) if one of the following statements is false in 5 years:
- the share of the revenue based on the z Series will be below 7%
- IBM will focus even more on KI, Cloud, ... In order to gain market share, their solutions will be made available on all major platforms, not just z Series.
- z Hardware will be replaced by other emulating CPUs and FPGAs because the shrinking numbers dont  justify proprietary chips.

What about it ?
I'll take that bet. But we have to meet somewhere and drink it together. ;)

Win-Win.

OK, what about Munich. At this time the Oktoberfest  Beer Festival is running.

I did say that on that occasion he had got away with.

You, on the other hand, seem to have handed HP a whole new product line. Now who's confused? :)

Also google have power based platforms in dev apparently with the idea of hiring TSMC to make the CPUs.

Well... I'm planning to be at least in Toronto by then... which midpoint would be in the North Atlantic just South of Greenland. Maybe Iceland?

I do hope to make it to Europe proper eventually... if I do by then, Munich is a deal.  :-+

Nice webpage with totally unique stuff, really. I liked the screwdriver at the bottom the best. This looks genuine.  :)

Not only that, this is an RF book and not once mentions power supply decoupling.

What is the name of this failed piece of literature so it can be duly avoided ?

Which I'm certain is deliberate; just the sort of meta-humor technical writers would think is "elegant."

I’m not going to list the title because I’ll probably get owned. Stay away from any 1970s amateur radio material of US origin though.
