Interesting way to do 2-wire resistance measurements. Though it is obvious and trivial, so I would expect it to be used on some early DMMs, I do not think I have seen a DMM that can not do 2-wire resistance measurements without external shorting links.

Here's a third.  (though it doesn't help much as it doesn't agree either...   :-// )

Uh oh - I just purchased my first Nixie tube test equipment. I've been on the lookout for a reasonably priced, good condition and small Nixie tube counter. Not because I need a counter - I have a perfectly functional Tek CM251 - but because Nixie tube counters look cool.  Is that so wrong? Am I in danger od succumbing to Nixie Tube Derangement Disorder?
Welcome to the orange glowie side.

They are remarkably soothing and restful to watch. Every home should have some.

I can't disagree with you there!  :D

I'm new here, but I tend to be pretty gregarious, so if I'm out of my lane please call me out.

As far as my TEA addiction goes i think i may now be well beyond any hope of recovery. I fixed my first old electronic. Comically it was because it didn't like a capacitor that it broke.

Ooh, lots of glowing displays! You can never have too many of those, surely.

Meanwhile, I put up a thread for the HP 3469A that I showed a preview of in this thread a little while ago. Enjoy!

I've finally come to grips with reality...  I can't stop testing, measuring, and auction/ebaying and I'm still in my first year of school :palm:

How much equipment/stuff in general do you have?

How much equipment/stuff in general do you have?

The answer to that is always: "Not enough"

I used to only worry about test gear, since I've been inflicted with the voltnut bug it's also the expensive components now too  ;D $30+ foil resistors, $60 buried zeners and such. I think I also have like 4 different PCB designs in flight at Oshpark.

The real question is how many pieces of test equipment should you have, for which the answer is:

N + 1

where N is the number of pieces of test equipment you already have.

This is subject to the S - 1 rule which states that you are allowed S - 1 pieces of test equipment

where S is the number of pieces of test equipment at which your spouse/SO leaves you.  There are some that define S - 1 as the number of pieces of visible test equipment, but that is an extremely risky proposition...

There is also NX+* which means whatever the number of NX is it needs more added to it, NX being nixie tubes.

Definitely, since my NX is zero...

Freshly acquired at local recycler shop, two vintage meters for $15.

Both are considered damaged by the seller, also as I couldn't test it on site too, since the Fluke's LCD is clearly gone, and the Simpson 260 uses the damn reverse banana plugs that I don't have nor the seller.

Even both are beyond repair, not bad as vintage T&M ornaments, right ? >:D

Physically both are still pretty decent, but I haven't open them up yet, wish me luck especially for the Simpson.

Depending on the depth, you might be able to use the Simpson meter with female-to-female safety banana lead couplers that are somewhat common and are part of some test lead sets.

Sounds interesting, think you could put some pictures up when it gets to you?

Nice find, i have a particular affinity to Simpson made instruments, and based off the one i own they have their quirks. Like for example using a custom made connector only really available with the purchase of the instrument as an output terminal.

Yep, thats the plan, its just I don't have any with me, going to buy few of them.

This is my very 1st analog multi-meter, all mine are digital, planning to do full overhaul and restoration work on it, hopefully nothing seriously damaged inside, especially the moving coil.  :'(
