cannot download the datasheet off there site, and they dont make it easy to get to the manual (you have to sign up and log in)  :-\ without either of these you cant really go comparing it against a similar scope in an oranges to oranges kind of way

I don't think you need to be registered to see the data-sheet which is at http://www.tek.com/datasheet/mso2000b-dpo2000b-series

Looks like just a 'B' revision of the same scope they've sold for years... It "works" but is a mess to use, bogs down easily and will lock up periodically.

The Rigol DS1074Z seems to better in every way at half the price.

Am I missing something?

If I wanted to buy a scope that would last 5 years with no problems, I would buy the Tek. It would be a bit more frustrating but reliable. No overclocked ADCs like in the *cough* other one

The Rigol is better Bang per Buck for sure but the Tektronix has more serial trigger and decoding options, you can easily use differential probes because it has the Tektronix Interface at the BNC ports and there is a MSO version.

Even the B revision is old. This web http://www.tektronixoverachiever.com/ is not new at all. Yes, MSO2000 has some advantages over my DSOX2002A. It has a bit longer memory, more triggers, better search capabilities, active probes...
But the screen is small. No pushable knobs. No TrigOut BNC. No function generator. Probably no table function for serial decoding. Well, this was decent scope in 2008.
Please note that the product videos were made in october 2012.

Really?  I've been using these scopes for a while, and find them very intuitive to use, never had one lock up, and they only slow down when you ask them to do something like a search or decode on a long record.  Very nice little scopes.

I may be spoiled by Agilents, but the ones I used didn't impress me very much, though they did work. It's possible the unit had an older firmware and the newer ones are better in that respect. I won't ever turn down an opportunity to demo units :)

A fixed samplerate.  The DS1000Z reduces the samplerate to 250Ms/s when 4 channels are enabled.

@marshallh: I wouldn't worry about overclocked ADCs. Rigol has done this for as long as they existed. If there where problems they would have gone belly up by now. Tektronix has oscilloscope models where components are pushed beyond their limits resulting in early failures (the trigger chip in the TDS694C for example).

There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

At first glance the DPO2000 was uneasy to operate for me. The display is overcrowded with stuff. It is rather small, but it has buttons on bottom and on right. BTW my friend has that scope and he finds it OK. (For his specific needs.) Here is teardown, not made my me. I found that photos somewhere. https://plus.google.com/photos/106264218831814439783/albums/5877858521093564545?banner=pwa
