FeelTech FY8300s Firmware update fail
« on: March 03, 2024, 11:14:52 am »
I initiated a firmware update to a FY8300s using the latest FeelElec Waveform Generator PC software posted to their website 2024-01-28 09:42:47, version 7.8.
The update was taking a long time so I left it over night and it was still updating in the morning so I aborted the software and turned off the FY8300s. Not supposed to do that I know but what do you do? Now, when I turn it on, there is a clicking noise, a blank screen, and the three channel lights are ON. No response from keypad or usb.
Is there any way to fix this one?

A firmware update shouldn't take more than a few minutes at most.

Have you emailed FeelElec? There might be some factory reset that lets you unscramble things, at least to the extent of being to retry a firmware load.

I will contact FeelTech and post the response here if I get one.

I tried to send an answer that it cannot be delivered.  Some problem with the server
FNIRSI 1013D Always provide a picture or video with the problem where the parameters of the oscilloscope are visible, and a picture of the diagnostic screen with the values.

No doubt forum member FeelElec will be along some time soon to advise, and ensure that your customer support experience is flawless. Or perhaps not, as the case may be.

I always knew I would one day learn how to use an EEPROM programmer. Just need to know what to buy and where to find the firmware file, if it exists.

I think they will not give you firmware file to flash it with programmer. The only way is to find open source firmware if it exists.

I remember they proposed to buy flashed MCU from them and then replace it with solder.

I was planning to buy a second unit to have a total of 6 channels. Is it possible to copy the firmware form one unit to another?

Before you go any further, there's a good chance this unit is thoroughly bricked and you won't get any help from FeelTech. It may not be so, but it's a definite possibility. So I suggest you consider the next steps carefully, and don't take off in a particular direction before researching it on here and elsewhere.

In your position I don't believe I'd be contemplating buying another one of these, before the problems with the first were fixed.

Zenith,
I appreciate the advice. I am holding off on buying another device for now but I have to admit that I thought the device did a good job for the price. I am hoping FeelTech will respond here or to the email I sent them. The problem was caused, in my opinion, by the software recently posted to the FeelTech website. The fact that they posted this update in Jan 2024 indicates they are still in the signal generator business so I am hopefull they will provide a solution. In the meantime I am open to any other ideas anyone has.

maybe  it had some hardware changes  and the FW was not the good one ??

some gens use stm32 mcu as the brain, some may not ??   you could be lucky to find an eeprom to duplicate ??

but on the main mcu,     they may or could have lock the read commands ... meaning  you're still left with a dead unit  :palm:
