Fuse source...
« on: November 06, 2023, 11:21:49 pm »
Does anyone have a reasonably priced source for the 400ma @1000V fuses for the BM786?

Even 600V would do me fine.  It will never even see 600V.

They've been out of stock since I got my meter over a year ago.

Plus the shipping form Oz to The Great White North kind of messes up the economics of the situation.

Bel Fuse, sold by Mouser.

https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/643/ds_cp_0adbx_series-1664157.pdf

You might get the 600mA version just for the lower burden, I think it will still blow in time if you overload the meter.

Or  you could just put in a 500mA standard 3AG glass fuse, or even an MDL (slo-blo) if you want to minimize nuisance events.  These have an interrupt rating of 10kA at 125VAC, so adequate unless you go in the panel or a 240V circuit.

A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

I have a 500 mA @ 250V glass fuse in there now.  The meter may actually be used in my breaker panel at some point, but likely not to measure mA.  Even still, it would be wise to have a better fuse in it.  Thanks for teh link to Mouser.  I'll put some on my next order.

Welectron sells an exact match SIBA 7017240.0,4 (not much surprise since they're  a dealer for many Brymen models) for  7.14€ excl. VAT, but shipping to the US would be 20€ so it would only make sense as an add-on if you were buying something else.

There are also these options that would probably work better cost-wise in the US - though they aren't an exact match (500mA instead of 400mA):

  - 500mA SIBA 7017240.0,5 quantity 10 for $16
  - 500mA SIBA 7017240.0,5 quantity 2 for $11
  - 500mA SIBA 7017240.0,5 quantity 1 for $7.50

That is if you trust they aren't fake (the listings are on Amazon, but Amazon isn't the vendor for any of them).  I have no idea how much counterfeiting of SIBA fuses goes on.  I wouldn't expect much, if any, but what do I know?

One difference  in the specs between the Bel Fuse and SIBA fuses is the Bel IR is 10kA while SIBA's is 30kA.  I honestly don't know how important that number is.

same here

i use 500ma 600ma fuses for the 400ma ranges, they blow too easily with an small overload
because here they cost a mere 10$ a fuse   FLuke cough cough   :--
