Tektronix 1240 ROM pack manual?
« on: December 22, 2018, 11:43:54 pm »
I've searched and scoured, but have found nothing.

I have a Tek 1240 with an 12RM63 6502 disassembly cartridge. I would like to use it but I can't find a manual explaining how to hook it up. There are 5 control lines that connect somewhere. I figured one of the lines (R/W). Where I can find a manual for this cartridge? Even a manual to some other Tek 1240 ROM cartridge could shed some light.

Does such a manual exist?

-Thanks

  • Why shouldn't we question everything?
    • It's not really a Blog

What a coincidence. I've just had my 1240 out to check it. Was discussing ROM packs with user bsb0011 here.
He mentioned the Tek ROM images at http://w140.com/tekwiki/wiki/1240
There are a LOT of them, but all listed by Tek part numbers and what instrument they are for.
I'm sure many are for disassembler ROM packs, but haven't found any index of what packs used what EPROM PNs.
Tek wasn't kind enough to put any helpful identifier text IN the EPROMs.
So far I didn't find any ROM pack user manuals. Yes they did likely exist, since there is a manual for the Comms pack

The reason I have my 1240 out, is that I need a 6502 disassembly logic analyzer.
Can you tell me the Tek PNs on the EPROMs in your ROM Pack please?  And their IC numbers.
Hopefully the images are already at Tekwiki.
If not, maybe you can read and upload them?

Edit to add - I found the IEEE 488 plugin manual.

Oh and btw, why I'm looking for a Tek 1240 6502 disassembly pack, is that I'm about to try and resurrect my old Apple II, then document some 6502 disassembly and hacking I did back in 1979, of Apple DOS 3.2
Background story here: http://everist.org/NobLog/20181001_missing_wave.htm

Problem is, all the printouts I did then were on crappy thermal paper. Which has faded to almost total illegibility.

Here is a watered down version of what I will be posting over at the 1240 wiki page (the entire list spreads past the end of most screens, and the line wrap makes it very hard to read).

Good info!  I noticed that the table looked like it was page 3 of a document, is there any chance you have the rest of this document, or any other connection diagrams for other processors?  I am going to be doing a update on the wiki listed at a link above pretty soon, and I would love to include any information that I can.  It seems that the information for the Tektronix 1240 / 1241 logic analyzer is spread pretty thin out in the wild, and I'd like to collect it all into one spot for others to find easily.

If anyone else has any information on the Tektronix 1240 / 1241 it would be great if you would contact me, so I can get all that updated.

As I do not have anything else to contribute to the 6802 in regards to the 1240, I'm going to start a new thread to collect any information on the 1240 /1241, and return this thread to the OP.

Sorry, the 6502 pdf table is exactly as I downloaded it, several years ago.

However, I do have full instructions for the 8080, 8085, 8088, 80186 and Z80 processor ROM packs. Also, I have the instructions for the 12RM99 ROM pack (which can be programmed for any processor). I will attach the files to your new thread.
