Siglent SDS800X HD - SCPI commands crash/hang edge trigger
« on: September 26, 2024, 08:30:32 am »
Tried to improve the GUI with some Python script, and the scope (yet again) presented me another issue:
The edge trigger stopped working. It does not trigger anymore.

The signal is a burst of 30 pulses with 1.038us of interval 100us, with a burst interval of 100ms. The pulses look good enough with that memory depth!

The video shows the failure:
https://youtu.be/aA7tV-adMDc

Python script attached with some breakpoints to find the exact cause (still diffcult though).

At random times, the trigger works, or stops. It can get back to work, if you keep debugging through the script.

If you want to join the effort, be my guest  :-/O

Actually, he's not, that's what an engineering forum is for...

You seem to be the one trolling here.  Did you actually look at the python script?
From what I saw at a quick glance, it is just sending SCPI commands to change trigger type at a rate of about 1Hz.
If that crashing the scope, then there is a firmware bug.

I read the Python code and it was simple, but I didn’t really understand the meaning of “Tried to improve the GUI with some Python script”.  :-//

---

Actually I watched that video several times, trying to find what changed on the GUI.

Same here, on both counts.  I just assumed the code shown was just a test snippet.
I also didn't understand the relevance of the included xml file, so was worried I was missing something.
Even so, nothing warranted those responses.

The video shows, that the trigger fails! In auto mode and normal mode.

Havent figured out what exactly caused this.

That script syncrinizes (if it works out) trigger settings, because that is something, what really annoys me, when the level for example is different, when you choose another trigger type and have *almost" everything else set up right. Yes, one may work out for themself, to look at all settings, but its still a bloody huge distraction.

Ps. I got another neat script written. Posting is coming ;-)
