Siglent SPD3303X and SPD3303X-E Power Supplies

I'm considering the SPD3303X vs the SPD3303X-E. I am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade from the X-E model to the X model for the 1mV/1mA resolution? I do a lot of microcontroller projects that generally have onboard regulators, so I don't think I will benefit from the X model over the X-E model. Does anyone have any thoughts on the comparison?

We have 3 of the 3303X-E that have been "upgraded" to 3303X.

These produce a stable, clean, and accurate output, however output terminal spacing is non-standard and the UI is sorta quirky. Earlier versions had issues with an overheating bridge rectifier causing random resets. Newer versions this is fixed, altho we've only experienced the random resetting in 1 of the 3 we have (all older versions).

If you can live with the terminal spacing and quirky UI, then they present a good value. The newer 4000 series looks interesting, but at additional cost!!

Certainly, however look at the additional they offer:
4 fully adjustable channels, all 1mV/1mA resolution.
2 remote sense channels.
Numeric keypad
3/4" terminal spacing 
Webserver
2x USB-A

Quite interested to give one a decent workout...........

It took 42 days in transit, and Rob says it probably won't help with the sketchy part in the PSU, but the DC load finally arrived.

What's the maximum parallel current level supposed to be? I didn't see a number specified in the datasheet or manual. For some dumb reason, I thought maybe closer to 6.4A.

If I set the load above 6.17A, the PSU LEDs turn red and it starts beeping. That's with CH1 at 3.2A, and CH2, under 3A. This happens whether or not CH3 is active. PSU max power is supposed to be 220W, but it's under 195W and still whiney.

Probably need to use a sense connection on your load for accurate readings from a banana lead connection.

Thanks, I have all the manuals. I consulted P15 before setting it up.

Why wouldn't the display on the SPD3303X be trustworthy for its output? The SPD channels say 3.199 + 2.94 = 6.139A. The load display says 6.14A. Why shouldn't I believe them both? I can run some regular wires if you think that matters.

Try setting AC In Line voltage for best match to your actual line voltage.....might help, dunno.

If you mean powering either device, it's already set that way.

I ran one of my DMMs in series with the circuit, and current display agrees on all devices. 🤷

It seems like Siglent is transitioning their product line away from the classic white to the new black shade if I am not mistaken…

I like the Siglent bench DMMs a lot. I usually use my SDM3065X more, but I often like using the SDM3045X (which is upgraded to SDM3055X-E) because it has no fan.

The other series (dark case) of Siglent DMM you're thinking of is different. The SDM4000A meter series is considered professional, and comes with the pro price tag too.

Sure but constantly being improved by way of minor changes to HW.
For the average Joe and even repair shops the 3045X is quite popular and dead quiet, an advantage when ON all day.

Perhaps you know if Siglent is going to refresh these series of DMMs soon tautech?

Only by way of a new SDM4000A series as Josh explained but won't be available until next year.
AFAIK a 4.5 digit model won't be included.

A bit off topic… but I wonder what SDM, SPD, SDG, and SDS stand for in the prefix of the Siglent model naming?

SDM would stand for Siglent Digital Multimeter I suppose. I don’t know about the others though.

My SPD3303X is off to Siglent NA for warranty repair. It had an issue where it couldn't get to the max current level in parallel mode. Hopefully I get it back quickly, I gave away my old PSU.

I got word today that my V3.0 hw has been upgraded to V6.2. I'm looking forward to getting it back.
