Stack CP-210 60MHz probe - can't find any info about it
« on: March 20, 2015, 08:42:27 pm »
Long time ago I've bought a C1-112A scope and get a Stack CP-210 60MHz probe with it. It looks solid and reliable, but I can't find any info about it. Maybe someone knows something more about this probe. Is it worth anything?

It's label says:
CP-210
60MHz
STACK
Made in Japan

Why not try it yourself?

Considering you can buy P6100 (100 MHz) probes for ~US$15 a pair delivered I doubt they are worth much.

Wait, he meant that ... literally? "worth anything" like in money?

Not literally, I meant is it better than "no-name" Chinese 70/100MHz probes? Mainly I'm looking for some specs of this probe and when it was produced.

There isn't much more to a probe like these run of a mill x1/x10 low bandwidth probes electrically than it's transfer function (gain/phase), and you can see if that one looks good easily (i.e. fast square wave / compensation).
The mechanical and handling aspects are felt easily.

Given that this thing was probably made by some company that ceases to exist a few decades ago in the 70s or maybe 80s it's rather unlikely that you'll find any specs for it. Okay, compensation range might be interesting, but I mean, you'll see if it's sufficient for your scope or not when you try to compensate it.

So, I suggest, no more talking, try it out, see if it behaves and handles well... sometimes turning something on is much better than taking it apart, even if the taking apart part is just with words ;)

Basically it works, and it compensates without any problem. But I don't have equipment to further test it (all I have is SDS1022 and an "ancient" 1,1MHz function generator Meratronik model G432). I was just curious whether anyone knows something about this probe and company which made it. Was it a low-end or something better.

I thought that if I could find datasheets for vacuum tubes from '60s or old Polish germanium transistors, so why not for a Japanese probe?

Maybe that probe was made by Stack Electronics in Japan.
Maybe you could try and contact them to see if they did make it and if they have any info about it.

www.stack-elec.co.jp/

They look like one of those companies that won't respond unless you're spending lots of money, but you never know.
