Fluke 189 Auto Power Off
« on: June 24, 2014, 02:32:35 pm »
I have probably three times in the last six months killed the batteries in my 189 because I forgot to turn it off (careless, I know).  I've heard that the Auto Power Off isn't complete with the 189, so perhaps this is normal if it's left "on" say, over a weekend.

However, I've found it on several occasions where it's set to power off after fifteen minutes, but I've gone back to it two or three hours later and it is fully on.  But it's sitting on a bench with other equipment and I'm primarily dealing with AC, so it's possible it's inducing enough voltage to where it thinks it's still being actively used.

Bottom line is I should be turning it off, but just sometimes I get pulled away for what I think will be five minutes and it ends up being a couple hours.  If this behavior is normal, so be it, it's just been bugging me.   :D

I have a 189, but have not used it enough to notice that issue.

Will check mine and see what happens.

According to the manual:

Quote
Automatic power off does not occur if the meter is in MIN MAX, FAST MN MX, AutoHOLD, or LOGGING mode

Yeah, in those modes it makes sense, but out of those I only use the Logging mode occasionally.   Hmm...
