Owon XDS2102A SoC and reverse engineering
« on: March 23, 2019, 07:50:05 pm »
Does anyone know what it is using or any way to get command line access?  The only open port is for the protocol used by their PC app.

There are 3 solder pads next to where the VGA option installs which look as if they might be an RS-232 port.

Interestingly, the board is marked "XDS3000_V1.4 2016-9-21".  I just noticed that after looking at the board for 30 minutes or more.  But I was too focused on looking for programming and debugging ports, chip markings, etc.

Hi,

i have also a XDS2102a.
I don't know if it has a telnet port on lan.
It is a little bit long ago since i have used the scope.
I mean to rember that it has one.
Will check this later and give you a feedback.

Realy interessting is the board marking.
It seems they have used the XDS3102a Board without touch screen gave them some software addons and sells them as 2102a.

It is also a little bit strange that is not so much hearing about this model.
You are the first one on this forum.
I know it gives 2 reviews on youtube but nothing else.

I am very glad with the scope but would have expected more detailed information in the net like teardowns etc..

Did you find out more yet?

regards

Hello,

Friends,

I also have an xds2102a, can we implement temperature and color zoom?  to 14 bits and extend the depth of the memory  all by software ?, because the hardware is the same as the xds3000 series. (xds3102a)

Best Regards

Figure out how to get root access.  I did a port scan and got nowhere.  But I've never been inclined to sink the time it takes to break into a system.  So I didn't do anything but look for obvious and trivial ways in.

The hardware is similar, but not the same.  Getting 14 bits is probable, but more memory depth is probably not.

It's really terrible as a DSO, but it will acquire 20 MPts at 500 MSa/s which is not to be sneezed at for under $400.  It's really sad we don't have FOSS on these so we can improve them.

Hello,

Someone will find out how to hack, I need the color and grayscale function in temperature, there must be possibility to access the basic software and modify it

The problem is that there are no deep information about this model.
It is a great oscilloscope for a low price with the rich function it has.

Don't know why it isn't so popular.
The risk to brick the device is very high if you don't have the right informations.

It's not popular because it's not really usable as a DSO.  Nice electronics, crappy case and even worse software with no updates.

It *will* collect a 20 Mpt 12 bit trace at 500 MSa/s.  For <$400 that's really nice.  But you will go crazy trying to use it as a scope.

BTW I bricked an Instek GDS-2072E trying to figure out the factory programming headers :-(

There are really few information about xds2102a, I opened mine, the card has the printed name xds3000, I just don't know how the basic software for changes could be accessed, could Dave Jones have a way to unravel this mystery, give the possibility to change the software for color and temperature, depth memory

It's a real pity.  The ADC will do 8/12/14 bit sampling.  But you have to pay 2x as much for 14 bit version.

However, 20 Mpts is a lot of data, so transferring it to a PC display program will let you do quite a lot.

O equipamento é bom porem deveria sofrer atualização, tem alguns erros FFT, instabilidades, perde configuração personalizada,  deveria habilitar escala de cinza e temperatura, bem como cores

This was supposed to be written

The equipment is good but should be updated, has some FFT errors, instabilities, loses custom configuration, should enable grayscale and temperature as well as colors
