Siglent SPD3303X and SPD3303X-E Power Supplies

I couldn't find a generic thread for the SPD3303X, so I made this.

I got a used SPD3303X (real, not hacked) for a decent deal on fleabay. It was only powered on 5 times, which is amazing since I nearly tripled that in a few minutes messing with IP and USB connections.

Anyway, it came with the 1.01.01.02.07R2 firmware, and Siglent's site has the newer version 1.01.01.03.10, and I want to upgrade to that. It doesn't work though. I tried upgrading and it gives the error "The file does not match the device!" What gives? Is that only for a different hardware version?

The original app, but this isn't a hacked X-E, it's the official X model.

The 1.01.01.03.10 firmware version only support s V6.1 hardware version, and yours is v3.0

Thanks, that's what I figured. I was wondering if there was any reason that the newer hardware might have an improvement, but I'm guessing it was maybe a supply chain related change. 🤷

I'm impressed with this so far. Voltage/readback accuracy says 0.03% of reading+10mV, and I'm seeing it within ~1.7mV on my SDM3065X.

It turns out I had one channel within 2mV, and the other was much farther off (but still within spec of 0.3% + 10mV)...but that wasn't good enough for me (translation: my entertainment) so I decided to do the calibration crap for it.

Did Siglent try to make calibration harder for some reason? They removed it from the newer version of the service manual, and I had to downgrade to .05 fw to get the cal commands to work. But they did!

Now everything is dead on across the board on both channels. Max variance is between 0.5mV to 1mV, usually on the money though. Cal carried over fine when I upgraded back to .07R2 fw.

V6 HW includes the updated rectifier bridge and a slightly improved/better display when in Series or Parallel modes.

LAN access was no problem. There was one weird bug with it though. The default address is 192.168.0.100. I changed that to a different number, and when I went to do the fw update over LAN, it still showed 192.168.0.100 as the address for the update (on the fw update screen specifically). So I switched it back to .100 and left it static that way, and had no other issues. Firmware updated twice over LAN without issue.

Even with DHCP on, it still chose the same address. If your LAN is 192.168.1.XXX or some other variation that could be an issue, I don't know whether the fw actually has an issue with IP addresses or not.

Can get LAN access with all 3 PS we have with EasyPower, but can't "see" them with NI-MAX or NI-VISA. We can "see" the SDM3065X with NI but not the three SDP3303Xs??

I used Putty via telnet on port 5025 to do the calibration stuff. NI-Max was too much effort to even consider. 😉

My router is a TPlink Archer C7, but I don't think that matters, since I believe any reasonable router has an IP address reservation table (under DHCP options)
For easy memorisation, I  tend to attribute IP addresses based on the device reference (SDM3055 --> IP 55)

For instance:

In one way or another, yes. But Netgear (at least used to) have some interesting additional choices for static routing beyond that.

My current router is an Amplifi Alien, and it's interesting. You can look at the list of connected devices and manually enter a static IP after clicking on a device. No need to go through a bench of menus to set stuff like that.

Have you ever updated firmware over ethernet with those IPs? Or are they all the newer hardware?

What would be a good stress test for this? I don't currently have an electronic load, but I'm not opposed to getting one.

Their only weak point is the 2A bridge used in earlier HW. The earliest ones gave no problem but bridge supplier may have been changed and then they very occasionally gave trouble.
A faulty unit we swapped out was repaired and we stress tested it at 5A @ 32V (Parallel mode) into a Eload for 3 days while at EMEX.

It provided some localised heating.

You get a load and then you stress test both at the same time?
