Oops -- why is your UBoot at 3.8.12 rather than 2.8.12? What exact scope model do you have? (I assume the anti-aliased font is just due to switching to large font size?)

SDS824X HD bougth form Welectron  beginning of June 2024  ... I really have no idea what was the version before I updated the software
Yes the anti-aliased font is just the result of switching to large font size ... now you all know that I am an old guy  :)

I know for previous scopes they had a separate update for the OS (UBoot).

UBoot is not an OS ... it is a bootloader that in turn loads the OS

Doesn't the UBoot version coincide with the OS version on the Siglent scope? I could be wrong, I was assuming. 🤷

While looking again at the image I realized that Siglent does not distinguish between the bootloader and the "OS" ... so sorry KungFuJosh.

AFAIK, Sigrok is not really actively developed and I don't think there is support for 2000X+ or any of the 12 bit scopes that support 16bit data format (v4).
If I'm wrong I would like to be corrected...

Let's see what can be achieved.
Currently I am able to perform a basic acquisition ... need to setup some multi channel acquisition and get used to the scope as well; with limited time available.

At the end of April in EEVblog 1612, Dave teared down the SDS1000X HD; during that video we learnrd he also received an SDS824X HD.
Does anyone know if a tear down/review of the SDS824X HD is on schedule?

I was half curious if the SDS800X shared the SDS1000X HD platform…. Same processor?  Front end?

I’m surprised Dave hasn’t done a SDS800X HD / DHO800 comparison.

No 50 Ohm inputs in SDS800X HD.

Defpom's review is very useful, he convinced me to buy - maybe Siglent (via @tautech) will send him a small gift.
On the other hand, every review made by Dave has a special charm. I've also been waiting for a while.
If his SDS800X wasn't lost or stolen :) , I'm still waiting to see a presentation.

The next milestone after the successful SDS1000X-E series, for all the ones on a budget who are serious about electronics T&M.

I enable measurement and add RMS, that's going to say that my RMS is 3.3V, and doesn't tell me the noise. Cycle RMS neither because my noise isn't periodic. So what's the measurement that I should use?

I've decided to solve the tempered glass screen protector question once and for all. I did some research which 7" tablets have similar screen size and came up with the list:

- Amazon Fire 7 (ruled out because of the camera cut out)
- Nintendo Switch OLED 7", 2021
- SteamDeck 7", 2021/22 & OLED 2023
- Asus ROG Ally 7", 2023

Ordered all on Amazon, they were cheap, like 10 bucks for a 3 pack. Here's the results (sorry for dark photos):

Nintendo Switch: Can be aligned to have same margins around the visible screen (LCD).
Steam Deck: Leaves 2 bands on the top and bottom. It is spot on on the sides, completely covers on the left & right.
Asus ROG Ally: Can be aligned to have same margins to the edge of the screen border.

Which one do you prefer?

I went with the "- SteamDeck 7", 2021/22 & OLED 2023" option and I'm happy. I also picked up a wireless mouse, thanks.

On a friday evening for an unknown reason, I decided to look at my power supply and his ripple/noise.
PSU: 15V 1.5A connected to 10Ω resistance LPR100 10RJ https://www.ohmite.com/assets/docs/LPR-01-33-002.pdf

I measure ripple with a capacitor directly at the BNC input of the scope and twisted wire to the power supply, its output.
If this is not available, you can try average, 16x for example.

So the noise is coming from the environmet; I am aware the noise is not coming from the PSU.
I already tried to find the source of the noise without luck and cannot "investigate" further about the environment.

I can calculate the PSU noise/ripple using the cursors whit PSU channel on and off ...
The question is: are you aware of some settings or probing technique that can help here?
I already tried Trigger Noise Reject.
The goal? Have the scope calculate correctly Pk_Pk and RMS

Look past the blur and at the deeper trace color.

Just what the repetitive spikes are is another question.  :-//
I will say from experience, trying to measure ripple on a PSU rated at 300uV max ripple and noise is not a trivial task.  :scared:

However Siglent have a specialized power rail probe coming soon but unfortunately it will be beyond the budget of most except professional users.

I have a magnifier lamp in my lab that creates noise like that. Just a really cruddy power supply in it.  If you have anything like LED lighting or things powered by SMPS wall warts, try shutting them off until the noise disappears.

Tried already to switch off/ disconnect almost evrything in the room, including the PC.
I guess I have to live with that noise ...

Yup, this in spades.
I have 1 room in the house with 10 LED downlights and 10'/3m high ceilings where one must be very careful when attempting any sensitive scope measurements however I now know where those 10+kHz spikes come from whenever they rear their heads.  :horse:

Prior to them becoming contraband in the United States, I hoarded several cases of incandescent bulbs for use in my lab / ham radio shack, precisely because of the absolutely awful RF noise created by many household LED bulbs.

Doesn't have to be the same room. I've spent insane amounts of time searching for the causes of spikes or parasitics that turned out to be power supplies on the other side of my house.
