What's the general opinion, is the SDS800X series considered to be a replacement/upgrade for the current SDS1000X-E? Or would it be more correct to compare it to 1000X-U instead?
Besides 12bit and 2GS/s, is there anything else? I'm on the market for a new scope, hesitating between 1000X-E and the new 800X. I wonder if 1000X-E prices will go down when 800X sales really kick off. Or perhaps wait a bit until people start selling their 1000X-Es and get a second hand one?

100% upgrade albeit at this time without the WiFi connectivity option the SDS11/1204X-E have.

No, 2 GSa/s and the memory depth that 800X HD provides puts it in another class.

The upper models UI and touch display make for a much improved user experience beyond what X-E models offer.

All are valid considerations that only the depth of your pocket can decide.

Over the next week or so 800X HD models will get into the hands of some here and provide further info that might help make your mind up which way to jump.
I've had SDS814X-HD for a few weeks and it's an impressive package.

So far from what I've seen I like the UI on this new SDS800X Siglent scope a lot. Not a big fan of the redesign Rigol has done with theirs.

Though the VESA mount on the DHO800 Rigol is really nice.

I'm a bit sad they both decided to ditch the built in 50 ohm termination. Siglent has an extra relay in their front end (2) compared to the single relay in the DHO800. Was hoping it would be for the 50 ohm signal path, but no luck.

If you really wanted this you could fashion one for almost any scope.

I would think they will still sell the cheaper 1104X-U as it only has one ADC as do not all these new ones have 2 ADC's?.  So I would say these new models are essentially the dash E replacements, and twice as good as the rigols as the new siglants have twice as many ADC's.  >:D

Just tried [the welectron discount] out on the 1204X-E, it works.
Should also work with the new scopes.

Sadly, "This coupon is invalid for your current cart".  Maybe in some days?

Just going through the specs sheet for all SDS800X:

One channel mode: 2 GSa/s,
Two channel mode: 1 GSa/s,
Four channel mode: 500 MSa/s

Does that mean there's only one ADC? With a 2 channel model that is ok, but 4 channels over single ADC that is a budget 1000X-U.

great! but thats almost twice the price from 804... https://www.tequipment.net/Siglent/SDS804X-HD/Digital-Oscilloscopes/ (there's typo in title?) lets wait if 804 is hackable to 824.

At 12bit per sample, tha is 2 * 12 = 24Gbit/sec. I am sure they use 16bit representation which makes it 32Gbit/sec or about 4GB/sec.
That is half of the DDR3 bandwidth, pretty impressive. I also wonder if SDS8*2X models come with 1 ADC or 2x.

I've ordered one (the SDS814X HD), including the LA. Be sure to pick an SLA1016 (and the accompanying SW license).

If you study the various previous posts there seems to be additional hardware (memory chips?) required to move up the SDS8XX-HD food chain, and the additional BW enablement is not shown in the scope as is in other "User BW Upgradable" scopes.

So IMO likely will not be as easy to "User Upgrade" as previous Siglent scopes.

Won't take long for us to find out tho, suspect many have already placed orders and itching to dive into these new exciting Siglent scopes  ;)

Fun times for everyone  :-+

Hopefully it is "upgradeable". If not, the 804 as-is will still meet my current requirements with the fastest thing I have to currently measure being RS422 lines for an encoder at 8Mhz. I'll spend the extra money over the 824 on better HV diff probes.

Ordered.

Nice. Collect 'em all!  :)

Is the glossy screen appearance of the 824 due to the screen protector which is still in place in the photo, or are they using a different cover glass than the 1000 series?

They didn't remove the foil from screen. You can still see red tab that you pull to remove it..

Divide the memory depth down in the same way, starting from 50 vs 14 Mpts.

If that is indeed the case -- what the heck is the larger RAM for in the 824? Reminds me of the DHO900 discussion, where I believe the mystery is still unsolved why Rigol populated two extra chips...

What leads you to believe the 824 possesses more RAM than 804?

Update: This scope is hackable, and it is surprisingly simple: just use Siglent keygen you can find on the forum (although I don't know which keygen exactly)

SDS804X ---> SDS824X, 50Mpts ---> 100Mpts mem-depth, 70M ---> 200M bandwidth. :-DD

The mem-depth is real, you can export a nearly 200MBytes binary wave file, which, you know 100Mpts*12bits/8 = 150MBytes

I wonder if someone can post such a file somewhere?  I think it is possible that the second half of the file might be duplicate of the first half. If it turns out that there is only half the memory in the SDS804X then the higher addresses might alias to the 50Mpts area.  Or maybe the latter half is filled with 0 or 0xff.

I'm guessing the 100Mpts upgrade is real, but this would be more evidence one way or the other.
