Anyway it's possible to use a bench scope with DC power, I do that with a 54V battery pack connected to AC input of SDS1202X-E or SDS1204X-E
Nice, then expect the same form factor SDS800X HD to work with a battery pack also as it likely uses the exact same PSU as the 4ch X-E models.....maybe that's something Defpom can confirm.

54V into PSU is forcing input circuits to work with much higher currents than normal... It is operating outside PSU operating parameters...
Do at your own risk...

I never had a problem fedding 54V DC into the scopes AC power supply, SDS1104X-E, SDS1202X-E, GWINSTEK, TEKTRONIX, also on TV's, PC computers, Laptops and other devices, etc. Never burn one. For ex: SDS1104X-E work about 5-6h daily for the past 4 years, never had a single problem.

This is not proof of safe operation just because nothing has happened so far.

it's something I've been doing for 40 years. this means two things, 1st I'm in fact lucky for not blowing devices, 2nd smps are strong enough to support this kind of abuses  :-DD

With 54 volts you are operating the device outside its specification, that is a fact that cannot be refuted.
And "it has worked like this for umpteen years" is not an argument in its favor.
It's just the way it is.

40 years- when most power supplies were still linear?  Not believable.  Why 54 volts?  Not 55, not 50.  Also suspicious.

40 years ago smps do exists, nothing suspicious about it. Computer smps for example. IBM XT PC, I know because I worked at IBM back in those days, and repaired many units, along with mainboards, not like today where we just replace parts... Comodore Amiga are also an example of using smps, the 500 model uses an external smps, this model come out maybe 3-4 years after IBM if I recall correctly. So smps do exist back then, not so common as today's days.

concerning 54V, it depends on smps design some start to operate at around 44v some a little less, but for stability a little higher voltage is required. Of course everyone is responsible for their actions, meaning if you decide to try it and burn the device don't blame me. I do it anytime for many years with zero failures. even with those cheap chinese dvd players with shitty PS. And although for most of you operating a scope with DC power is not a concern, every manufacturer should consider this feature, because we live in a time where portable devices are a must these days and there's not much offer in this class of equipments .
And btw, for those amateurs who will find this amazing, beware that dealing with 54V DC could kill you or burn you.

Well,
Looking in the datsheet of the 1000X-E, there´s no word about bandwith upgrade but we all know it is possible.
Was just going to mention that.

Rob or Defpom are just going to have to give it a go!!!

Inquiring minds need to know!!!!

I gave Rob his scope back today, so he will be able to answer this soon (he has already told me the outcome, but I will let him tell you)
Cheers Scott

We have higher-resolution teardown photos of the SDS1000X HD now, and it does come with DDR RAM chips of twice the capacity compared to the 814X HD. (In an otherwise similar layout.) So that RAM is probably needed to support the 100 MPts memory, and I would expect to find the larger RAM chips in the 824X HD as well. Doesn't look good for upgradability.  :(

Doesn't look good for the memory upgradability, but just having the better frontend bandwidth is already a lot.

Hello,

Is it possible to measure the mains frequency by setting the trigger to line and activating the counter? I can't do it with the Rigol DHO1074.

Best regards

Yes, confirmed with SDS800X HD also.

Did you happen to accidently do any BW measurements before you fixed it? :-DD

Now I just have to decide between this and the 1000X HD.  This will physically fit better where it has to go (needs to go where my SDS1000X-E is now) and costs less. :-//

Some height restriction ?
SDS1000X HD is just 5mm wider than SDS1004X-E/SDS800X HD.

SDS1000X HD Length × Height × Width = 317.2 mm × 236.0 mm × 149.0 mm
SDS800X HD Length × Height × Width = 312 mm × 151 mm × 132.6 mm

Did you happen to accidently do any BW measurements before you fixed it? :-DD
Patience friend, in due course these measurements will be made.

Already we know SDS814X HD =~155 MHz and I suspect the 70 MHz SDS804X HD might even challenge the ~120 MHz of SDS1104X-E but these test take time and life is busy....

f=50.00000Hz? Doesn't look like the mains frequency is really being measured. Same with the SDS1000HD.

Sometimes it is exactly that.  Look up a mathematical theorem called the "mean value theorem".  If you know any mathematics, this will help you understand.

Are you trying to insult my math skills :P? Having the "luck" to measure precisely 50.00000Hz with 10µHz resolution afterall at two different days and times? Maybe, but (for now) very very unlikely.

Crystal ball says the 804X HD will go for around 409€ in GER incl. VAT. Very competitive indeed. Now to see where the 1000XHD will land and if the increased features will convince me to spend more for capability I don't really need  ;)

I don't think they bring that model to Europe.

IMO 50/60Hz Line frequency indication is just a nominal value from line frequency autodetect and I agree the measurement to 5 LSD is quite unnecessary.

2 screenshots from an AC wallwart as an example.
