I don't think Android has any inherent advantage over regular Linux for a bench scope. Other than initial ease of development and abundance of developpers for the platform.
Once you have an estabilished platform and software crew, the advantages stop.

Linux isn't known for it's UI toolkits.

The chipset inside the Rigols is designed around Android. An Android system will be far more integrated/robust than somebody trying to cobble together a Linux system.
Well, I don't know much about development, but there are many TE based on Linux without any stability or robustness problems, Keysight for example.

Siglent uses Qt, which is a pretty powerful framework, predating anything Android by more than a decade, and constantly evolving.
It's used by KDE, which happens to be my favorite desktop environment.

I hope Siglent stays with pure Linux, and spend the extra processing power on useful measurements instead of bling and cheaper junior devs.

I mention is because the Rigols have massively more bandwidth than advertised, not just "a bit".

This is not necessarily an advantage; depending on the sample rate, a higher bandwidth can be counterproductive.
For example, with 312.5MSa/s and 200Mhz bandwidth.

Qt is an excellent platform, with a lot of power for UI design. QSS works very similar to CSS, and can be used for extensive UI/UX control. Anybody claiming that Android is a better environment doesn't know what they're talking about. Also, I've seen what Rigol has done with the UI potential, and it looks like every element of their design is dated by at least 15 years.

I didn't know Siglent was using Qt, but now I'm curious if any of the QSS files are accessible, or if it's all hard coded in. 🦹

I haven't found anything on the file system or in the firmware updates. Looks like they bundle the Qt framework in the OS, and a single executable for the app.

Boo. It would be so cool if they had some editable QSS files on there. Then we could customize the shit out of it.

It is irrelevant what OS is manufacturer using. It is what it is.

Maybe 90% of scope development is NOT UI work.
Math, measurements, FPGA, etc. takes most of the work.

Scopes are not computer games...

That being said, can we please keep on topic this time?

You're definitely known for becoming an instant guru on a device just by smelling its fumes but that doesn't mean you known all the stuff. What the heck makes you say something like this?

Giving Fungus the benefit of doubt, I assume he meant the SoC when he said "chipset"

Yep. What else would I mean?

If however "chipset" refers to the data acquisition engine, I agree that it seems absurd to assume that this was "designed around Android".

Absurd would be assuming I meant that.

Some people should learn to use the right terminology to say what they actually mean. That would make life simpler.
Alright! On the other hand, isn’t it totally meaningless what incompetent persons actually mean?

I just noticed this because the Batterfly video popped up.

Obviously will be directly compared with the Rigol 800/900
So far I see no VESA mount and no HDMI, two of the big additions to the Rigol 800/900. You could also add in USB-C power and the slim form factor, but that's always arguable.

Is the Rigol DHO800/900 Series the only scope with VESA mount in this price range ?

if you squint it's mint

[Insert obligatory "it will be ready when it's ready", "Siglent is all about quality, not driven by release schedules" etc. sermon here.
are you saying there will be no fw bug when its out? are you willing to bet? ;)

There won't be Rigol style clusterf**k for sure.

There will be bugs of course, everything has bugs. But it will actually work.

Just a hint: it won't try to sample 250MHz signal with 156 Msps/s ....

Can't have a Siglent thread without angry Rigol fanboys having temper tantrums and trolling. 🙄

you mean like this? ;D https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/rigol-dho800900-oscilloscope-bug-reports-firmware/msg5252421/#msg5252421 admittedly we have rigol fanboy going around...

i'm not sure whether they have their mom or family work in high ranking siglent office, but i'm not sure why they got easily insulted. and its funny why some people have to swear by its "quality" we know its proportionally to the price. lets wait how SDS800X goes. i only believe demand and supply rule nothing more. if you have good price and quality, whether you tantrum or not, lot of people are going to buy it... rigol may not have good after sale service but... like dom said... "winning is winning" whether you tantrum or not, who got threatened? "their" family? oh please!

Go and look who was the first "subscriber" in the Project Raigol thread, and reposted it endlessly, along with that stupid "Rigol vs. Siglent" comparison spreadsheet.
