I Thought about buying one of these https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/maximum-digital-multimeter-with-true-rms-0521898p.html#srpfor testing electronic boards like ps4s switches etc but I'm curious if they are actually any good I used to have one of these https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/canadian-tire-mastercraft-dmm-new-and-old-revision-teardown/75/ and loved it but killed it when working on a motorcycle.  |O I also considered getting a unity ut 61e but no prime shipping and I don't want to wait months :-//.

so what you guys think is the maximum worth 100$

Full price, I would probably buy something else.

In rebate, sure why not. Bought this one for 34$ https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/autoranging-digital-multimeter-0520052p.html#srp

Was made by all-sun: http://www.all-sun.com/EN/d.aspx?pht=1440

Not sure of the CAT rating though, 600V CATIV, I think they are pushing it a little bit. But the meter is spot on up to 1Kv.

I have no idea if the 052-1898-4 is any good though, I don't have one. And looking at allsun website it's not from them. So they contracted another OEM for this one.

The markup on multimeters at Candian Tire is 100% or more.  Multimeters at Canadian Tire usually go on sale for 50% off.

If you are going to pay $100 Canadian, you can do better.  I suggest looking at your local kijiji for used meters.  If you are willing to disclose your location, I can look to see what selection you have in the $100 range.  You might be able to find used Flukes, Brymen meters rebadged as Greenlee.

Alternatively, if you loved your old Canadian Tire meter before it killed, you can always see if you can buy an used one.  But then, if it got killed, you may want to rethink how it got killed and whether it's safe enough.

The Canadian Tire multimeter part number 052-1898-4 is a variant of the Mastech MS8150B. The Mastech MS8150B can be bought for $32 US from aliexpress.

The case and buttons are identical to the Mastech MS8253A, but since Canadian Tire is not publishing the specifications; it is difficult to compare them.

I do not remember this particular Canadian Tire multimeter being on sale at 50% off, but if it is not at 50% off; it is too expensive.

i think they have the same one on sale right now how is it for checking continuity and things on extremely low resistance caps and resistors

https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/autoranging-digital-multimeter-0520052p.html#srp this one is on for 29 cad

Geez I thought I was having a good deal at 34$!

On the 052-0052-2:

- Continuity is not so good. But after switching the leads by a good gold plated pair, it was working fine. So the problem was the leads. Maybe I should try to clean them with deoxit to try improve conductivity.

Better leads

- Capacitance is working fine. here's some examples:

2000uF (UT61E is reading 2500uF)

1uF

100nF

10nF

2.5nF

- Resistance is also working fine and is probably in specs. Some examples:

500 \$\Omega\$

100 \$\Omega\$

5 \$\Omega\$ (Relative mode was used)

0.2 \$\Omega\$ (Relative mode was used)

Overall I really like the meter. Even has NCV (non contact voltage testing). for 29$ it's a good deal.
