....
Total cost is now no less than the HW and the previous license.....

Hello,

for SDS3000X HD the costs for license and hardware were about 900 €. The hardware now costs around 506 €.

Best regards
egonotto
SPL2016 plus SAG1021I = $ 724 current pricing.

Significant cost reductions for some models come from zero licensing costs which for some models were $ $ more than other models. < This I could never understand.  :-//

I've had the finger on the trigger for buying the logic probe for months.
Now I took your warnings :scared:
and immediately pulled the trigger for the old price of 379 Euro incl. taxes.    :phew:

All DIY LA probes that have a simple flat cable will work poorly. The probe must be connected to the scope using 50Ohm coaxial cables.
In the thread on DIY SPL2016, all this was discussed and decided a long time ago. There is no point in buying an LA probe like the one from your link.

Does the original probe use such a cable?

Yes, exactly. Original SPL2016 cable looks like a simple flat cable, but it is a ribbon of thin coaxial cables.

I've updated my firmware and all went well. I noticed that there's a new serial decode option that was added... ARINC 429. The interesting thing is that I don't see any mention of it in the release notes and I can't seem to find a way to purchase it on Siglent's site other than for the higher end models such as SDS5000X.

Did anyone else also get this ARINC option?

Does anyone know what the 4 character option code is for this mode?

I would like to bring to your attention that the logic pod from HP/Agilent, that is used for DIY siglent probe, is not a coax either. I scored a couple of them during dumpster diving. Some of them had the insulation already broken exposing wires. It is a twisted pair. I can share a picture when I get home on Friday.

It's A429. According to Siglent Enginer, it's an option for ARINC429 decoding, in my firmware it named "ARINC" without 429, but also can unlock by the python file using A429.
Disconnecting from this world...

Hi all,

I found the new Serial Signal Test analysis mode (part of the recent FW V1.6.2R5 firmware) quite interesting, and I am happy we see this kind of updates to existing instruments.

Below is a link to a video review I made of it. I also discuss some other firmware changes, such as the instruments’ UI.

My favorite part of that fw update was fixing the screenshot confirmation popup. 😉

For those interested in math functions, you might want to look at the latest episode of the series of comparison videos.

Here, the SDS2000X plus is a strong player, in many ways better than the R&S RTB2000.

I also note some particular quirks of the SDS math implementation (like its 'support' for recursive formulas and the way it behaves when dividing by zero).

Enjoy!

It might be of interest for the Siglent guys here:
This device with it's special history did the upgrade to SDS2000X Plus Firmware_V1.6.2R5 today without any problems so far.  :-+

My SDS2104X plus, bought January 2021 does not start any more.

When pressing the power button at the front, the button lights up, but no fan, no screen, no further button lights.
Same after disconnecting all connection or trying different power cord, which are double checked and known good anyway.
Pressing lit button for some seconds makes it to unlight again.
...
Finally I have the Scope back fully functional.
...
Got the same device back Mai 20th with mainboard changed.
Old was HW version 02-04, FPGA 2020-09-23
New is 02-00, 2021-07-16
...

No, it is 5.0.0.
Please contact me via PM with your email address and we'll get this corrected.

Discussed with HQ a couple days back and as yet we have no way to get to Uboot 5.4 without running a recovery package and reinstalling the V1.6.2R5 firmware.

Tautech provided a fix in no time.
The scope is now running with latest firmware and U-boot 5.4.0. The time zone issue is fixed.  :phew:

Excellent support, Rob, thanks a lot!  :-+

No worries, happy to help and TBH you were a guinea pig testing the new recovery package setting the Uboot to 5.4 and also installing the latest V1.6.2R5 firmware.

There is talk this will be released to the public.....  :phew:

Note for others....

Peter_O's was a tricky recovery however the package we now have got it right up to date with latest FW and 5.4 Uboot.
The USB size and stick format is crucial to success, FAT32 and 4k clusters is the most reliable bet along with a quality brand, Siglent recommends 8GB FAT32 Kingston USB sticks.

Yep. NP. No risk no fun. And: community is working bidirectional only.  :-+
I'm happy there is no need to send the device to Siglent to get it fully on track again.  :phew:
Thx again!

Is this the right place for feature request?
If so….9bits please when decoding UART.
Some other brands have it and I need it because I’m reverse engineering a protocol that has 9 data bits and Siglent only goes up to 8.

Otherwise I have to buy a new scope…which is always tempting too…

@tautech

My scope is a few fw releases "behind" .....
Is there any requirements of a minimum "current" version, to perform the recovery (uBoot latest) + upgrade to latest fw ??

/Bingo

Hi Rob,
thank you very much for the file and the instructions to update to uboot 5.4

But unfortunately the procedure doesn't work on my scope (SDS2104X plus, FPGA 2024-01-29, CPLD Version: 03, Hardware Version: 02-04 )

I tried the recovery with the stick recommended (Kingston 8GB, FAT32, 4k cluster) and also with a different one. The scope booted, everything looks fine, but at the end the uboot stays on 5.0.0 (and the timezone setting doesn't work)

I followed the procedure in your email, but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Can I update the scope to the newest SW Release  after booting in to recovery or is a reboot required?

Thank you very much for any support
