Hello,

I didn't have them, is that a sign that my device is a return?

Best regards
egonotto

I've never had a siglent device that didn't have all the bnc dust caps on it.
Except for my first SDS3000X HD, which turned out to be a demo device.

I love how your SDS3104X HD is just kinda hiding in the background. 😉

I did a quick test with my SDG2122X, it looks pretty cute.

The display quality is simply superb, this is what 12 bit resolution should look like. :-X
Do you have a generator with more than 120Mhz bandwidth?
Then you could use sweep and FFT peak to simulate your scope's own frequency response.
Well, you can also use the SDG2122X, but then you won't see the “end” unless you include the 20Mhz limiter.

I agree; the display, and what's on it, are fantastic.

The only thing I have that goes higher than the SDG as a TinySA Ultra. That doesn't do a clean sweep though, it steps through instead of sweeping.

I will wait for improvements before I see what the max frequency my scope can "bravely see" before I play that game though. 😉

I bought the SML01 second-hand especially for this purpose.
500Mhz and 1.1Ghz generator, that was fine.
1Ghz no longer, so the SML01 had to go and make room for an SSG3021X.

That's awesome! I would love a nicer quality SG that can go over 500MHz, but I have no need for one beyond the goofy tests we do on here.

It's no different for me, because I actually come from the audio sector, hence the Neutrik A1 in the Power Tower.
But I like the fact that if I have an idea in my head, or if a current situation requires it, I can implement it at home.
I don't like it when I get stuck, which is why I've been buying more measuring devices in recent years.
And it also helps to understand things that I can then pass on to others.
And so on. ;)

The counter feature is pretty cool. I connected it to my ST2832 to test the voltage and freq.

I don't recall this being on the Plus model. Was it added there, or just on HD?

The counter feature is cool but how accurate is it?

I didn't see an accuracy note for the counter in the datasheet. It appears to be quite accurate. The LCR it was connected to was set exactly to what the scope saw, and that was consistent with the counter on the SDG2122X, and on my DMMs. I let it run for a while, and it was all nice and stable. Maybe somebody else has a better answer than that, I dunno. 🤷

C'mon guys, apply a little simple reasoning.

Counter accuracy will be linked to timebase accuracy.
From the datasheet P9:
Time base Accuracy ±2 ppm initial (0~50℃); ±0.5 ppm 1st year aging; ±3 ppm 20-year aging

That's what you're here for! 😉

I also didn't want to assume it was that simple because the frequency box on the top right didn't always agree with the frequency stats separately on my previous scope (haven't done much with this new scope yet to compare).

Here's the same setup as above after running for longer...

I‘m late to the party but here I am!
My new grey (leftover?) toy including the option bundle arrived today!

After playing some month with the SDS800 I must admit that at the end the screen was too small for
my old eyes and the fan was way too loud for my old ears! So I used more and more my SDS2000X+ again but here I missed the joy of 12 bit, of filters…. So I sold both and got the new scope with a small discount from my trusted distributor. (sorry tautech, you are too far away)

And first impression: nearly noise free! And all BNC with dust caps! And the impressive handle  :-DD

Was this from Welectron? They seem to still have the white SDS2104X HD in stock, and they have now adjusted their prices to a healthy proportion of the reduced (post-3000X HD) list prices of the black models.

Hello,

to KungFuJosh and Bad_Driver and other owners of the SDS2104X HD.
Could you please make the following noise measurements.

Stdev
(1ms/div, 2GS/s, 20MPts, 50 Ω):

20MHz BW
1mv/div
1V/div

FULL BW
1mv/div
1V/div

Best regards
egonotto

Yes, my trusted distributor is Welectron. Very Friendly, very fast (over night delivery).
Highly recommended!

noise measurements

I first did single channel 2GS/s, 20MPts, but then I did 4 channel and that dropped to 1GS/s, 10MPts. Noise was basically the same anyway.

I tried to repeat KungFuJosh‘s Measurements but I discovered a strange behavior on my brand new scope. I can not change the gain of channel 1, it always switches back to 20 mV after 2 seconds. All other channels work as expected.

Is this a hidden feature or a failure? :-//

Any hint or advice from you? Has anyone else the same problem?

Latest firmware and self calibration are done.

Edit: it seems that channel 1 tries to get the signal „full screen“ as with Auto Setup.
I tried it with the probe compensation terminal, after changing Ch1 to 1 volt (or something else) it switches immediately back to 500 mV (with the provided probes).  Is there an automatic gain control?

btw, channel 2-4 have the same noise level as kungfujosh‘s scope.

Try a couple factory resets and reflash the newest firmware.

After two factory resets and a reflashing of the latest firmware nothing changed. Channel 1 tries to perform an „automatic gain control“ to get the signal full screen. I tried it with my SigGen with different signals and amplitudes. Channel 1 changes gain always to about 90% of full screen.
Seems like a feature I accidental activated.

Any ideas?

Have you connected the probes?
Remove them, it may be due to the auto-sense.

No difference. Direct coax from the SigGen to the scope, same behavior.
It switches through the gain levels until the signal fits the screen.

Do you by any chance have DVM meter on?
More specifically enabled DVM, pointing to CH1 and AutoRange ON in settings?  8)

Yes! That‘s it! Everything is now ok! And this explains all! Thanks to all who helped me with ideas and advice!

I wonder why the DVM was active after 2 factory resets and one firmware flash.

Probably needed a 3rd factory reset. 🤣
