Siglent SDS 1202X-E - Firmware Update

I'm probably the only person on the planet that didn't get the word so if this is old news, charge it off to old age.

There is an upgrade available (as of 17 July 2017) according to the Siglent Facebook page:

It is and it have been available in Siglent official download center.

Also Official European Siglent link this same file and least these are quaranteed. Who quarantee some unknown "noname" place files.
All updates are available  from Siglent directly.

I wonder, in theory there would be an update to fix some serial decoding problems.

1.3.17R1 was released in November.

Now it appears on Siglent's website with a release date of June 29th 2018. What's going on?

Yep, that's the Hamburg website and it's wrong.  :-//

Nothing other than what's been posted in the SDS1*04X-E thread.
Some Decode issues were sorted and further changes suggested. All these should of course be implemented in SDS1202X-E too IMHO. I hope they are and before too much longer.

There is firmware version: V1.3.23 | Published：2018-09-26

It's a very worthwhile update that brings the 1202X-E into line with many of the features of the 1104 and 1204X-E.
BTW, don't forget to run the Self Cal.  ;)

Just update mine too.
Self callibration is done, after 40min warming up :)
Works great!
Also, I'm vary happy to see that there is no bug with "probe compensation" when switching levels 1,18V -1,20V. in my scope!

I want to ask something strange (for me  ???):

Before update:
software version: 7.1.3.17R1
FPGA ver.  2017-11-08
hardware ver. 00-02

After update:
software version: 7.0.1.3.23
FPGA ver.  2018-08-13
hardware ver. 00-02

this "0" in new software version is confusing me :)

(p.s. - sorry if there are mistakes -english is not my native)

That's perfectly fine. With the latest update, the version number string got one additional digit, which indicates the OS (operating system) version:

7.   1.3.17R1
7.0.1.3.23

Here is what I got with my February 2018 SDS1202X-E

Before update
Software version: 5.1.3.17
FPGA ver.  2017-11-08
Hardware version 0c-01

After update
Software version: 5.0.1.3.23
FPGA ver.  2018-08-13
Hardware version 0c-01

On a new November 2018 SDS1202X-E out of the box
Software version: 8.1.1.3.23
FPGA ver.  2018-08-13
Hardware version 00-02

When comparing the units the firmware seems to be the same (menus are identical etc.) so what is going on with the different software versions  (5.0 vs 8.1 prefix)??

I haven't done one for a bit as new units received have the latest FW, but yes only a minute or two and sometimes accompanied with a self boot or two. However I have seen updates fail to take properly at first install and a second installation fixes that.
Generally the required Self Cal takes much longer that the firmware update.

Updates are something I don't like to hurry or do when we are in storm conditions for fear of a bricked device.
However there are recovery files files available now for us dealers to get units up and running again but they are not for public distribution.

Should a feature not work as it has before or a new feature in the changelog not be added into the UI then running the FW install again IME always fixes it.
It gets a little more complex when an OS upgrade is offered in that they are optional but without installing it some new features like the improved Webserver for SDS1004X-E in it's new FW won't be activated.

Just follow the FW install instructions given by Siglent and all goes well.  :)

In the 1.3.23 release notes there was an interesting comment about the operating system files.  I have attached a copy as well as the system info from two different scopes (one made in February and updated; the other made in November).   I didn't see any change in format from the previous firmware.  No OS Version ID...

Actually, I'd suspect it's been upgraded from V5 to V8 OS in order to accommodate the significant changes introduced in V23 FW.
There were changes to the GUI in order to add the channel tab indicators for probe attenuation and Invert.
This was done to align 2ch X-E's with features added later to their 4ch cousins.
Many changes were made in V23 FW, many were never part of the original SDS1202X-E specification.

The two scopes with the upgraded firmware have the same user interface and appear identical.  What I have not checked is using them remotely (i.e. EasyScope).  I wonder if the different OS would have any effect on remote operation.  There must be some reason that they updated the OS in later versions...
